These are just some random headcanons I have about Kate and Rafe and their relationship. Mostly fluff, but some angstier ones.
- Holding hands constantly. If they're walking side by side, their hands are probably intertwined.
- They love slow dancing together and are pretty good at it too.
- They comfort each other after a nightmare. They will also hold each other until they both fall asleep. It's easiest for them to have peaceful dreams when in each other's arms.
- They can talk to each other really easily. They'll often have long conversations about feelings and life that they wouldn't feel comfortable having with anyone else.
- They hate lying to each other, and they rarely keep secrets. As a result, they absolutely fail at surprise gifts and things most of the time because they don't want to hide it from each other and are also to excited to not tell.
- Michael and Emma actually don't tease Kate much about her relationship with Rafe, because she raised them and they consider her an authority figure who deserves respect. Rafe, on the other hand, they (especially Emma) tease a lot.
- Rafe has a lot of anxiety over all he did, and he often feels he'll never be good enough for Kate, who deserves the world, in his opinion. This makes it hard for him sometimes when it comes to interacting with Kate's family and friends.
- Kate on the other hand does not care what people think. She loves Rafe and anybody who hates him can walk on. Several times people have said nasty things under their breath and every time Kate has called them out. She doesn't like to fight, but she gladly will argue with someone if it means defending her relationship.
- Rafe will fucking murder anyone who tries to harm Kate. And while he hates being monstrous, he's learned a lot about it from being the Dire Magnus and he will destroy someone if that's what it takes to save Kate. It scares him a bit, to be honest, how far he will go, but she's worth it.
- Michael and Emma at first weren't big fans of Kate and Rafe together, mostly because they don't think any guy is good enough for their angel sister. But then they realize that Rafe is good enough for Kate because she chose him. Kate loves him and wants him and that's why he's worthy of her. Because it's what she wants and what makes her happy. And if she's happy, that's what's important.
- Eventually once Rafe and Kate have been together for a bit, and everyone realizes that they're forever, Michael and Emma begin subconsciously thinking of Rafe as their brother-in-law. Now they just automatically think of him that way.
- They both proposed to each other. Mostly because I can't decide what would be cuter, Rafe making a big deal and wanting everything to be perfect because he's proposing to the love of his life, the most amazing girl he's ever known, or Kate just asking him because she loves him and wants to be with him forever and she's not going to wait any longer. So yeah, they both did.
- They know each other like the back of their hands. When one has a bad day, the other immediately goes to comfort them. That's how easy they can read each other.
- Rafe serenades Kate on his violin for special occasions. And when she asks him to. Or when he just feels like it. Quite often actually. Kate loves it.
- They're both mature beyond their years after all they've been through. Which means they're the ones who constantly give advice to Michael, Emma, and any other kids they come across. Kate and Rafe don't mind. They're both very parental and good with children.
- They rarely call each other girlfriend and boyfriend because they don't feel the terms accurately describe the depth of their commitment to each other.
- They have absolutely no problem admitting how much they love each other. Like, there is no hiding their feelings to be "tough" here, not when life is short and they've almost lost each other so many times.
- They act like such a married couple at times, with their mannerisms and the way they know each other so well.
- Kate wears Rafe's jacket all the time. Rafe doesn't mind. He has magic to keep himself warm and she just looks so happy wearing it.
- Once they got talked into a double date with Michael and Wilamena. It was very awkward and they agreed to not do it ever again. And that was before Emma (who had been left home alone) called saying that she had tried to cook and it had gone very awry.
- They take long walks in the woods of Cambridge Falls when they need some privacy or a place to talk or just to think and calm their thoughts. Or when Michael and Emma are being crazy and they need peace and quiet.
- Sometimes all the horrible memories of all they've been through come back. When that happens, sometimes they can talk each other out of it. But sometimes all they can do is hold each other while they cry.
- Kate will lean up to kiss Rafe on the cheek any time he's in a grouchy mood and it always does the trick.
- Rafe's greatest fears are losing Kate and becoming a monster again. But he already knows that if he had to, he would become that monster to save Kate, as many times as necessary. He hates himself for being able to make that choice so easily. But that doesn't change what he would choose.
- Kate believes in Rafe even when he doesn't believe in himself. She knows he is, at heart, a good person. She just wishes he could see that.
- Rafe thinks Kate's smile is the most beautiful thing in the world. He wants to make her as happy as possible, just to see her smile like that.
- They each have a different relationship with jealousy. If a guy tries to flirt with Kate, Rafe definitely gets annoyed, frustrated, and will intervene if the dud me will not go away. But he doesn't get jealous because he knows Kate is committed to him. And she also tends to tell any guy who is getting on her nerves to stop before Rafe gets involved.
- Rafe, on the other hand, rarely knows when other girls are trying to flirt with him. While this could seem odd, since he's pretty good at deciphering others feelings, it actually has a reason. Rafe is Kate's and he's happy to be hers. She's such an important person, such an important part of him, he feels like everyone just automatically knows he is hers. That it's a fact. So the possibility that other girls might be interested in him almost never crosses his mind. Of course they aren't, he thinks, he's with Kate. Everyone knows that. Fortunately, Kate is usually able to gently explain things and stop any and all efforts of others to flirt with Rafe. Though if she really has to, she will get frustrated.
- Michael, Emma, and Wilamena have all had to tell Rafe to kindly shut up about how much he loves Kate. They know. He's been speaking for twenty minutes. This needs to stop.
- When they become adults and get married, Rafe takes Kate's last name. After all, he has no living family left, he grew up alone, a thief and an orphan. It's been a long time since his family was a big part of who he was. But Kate has family she loves, and two younger siblings that she's been through a lot with. Her family means a lot to her and they're becoming Rafe's family too. Besides, Rafe Wibberly sounds nice. (Also Rafe doesn't have a canon last name. And I wasn't making one up. But let's ignore my reasons and focus on family and also breaking tradition)
- While Kate is usually a peaceful person, if anyone comes to harm Rafe, to take him away from her and turn him back into a monster, she will fight them and destroy them. An angry Kate fighting for her loved ones is a force to be reckoned with.
