A/N: I have a lot of ideas about the Wibberly siblings and their connection to the books of beginning, okay. Both before the events of the series and after them. So here's some of what I've been thinking about.
Pre-Series Headcanons
- Michael could always tell when the cold or the flu was going around school, and he always guessed correctly which kids would be out sick.
- Michael also sometimes experiences strange dreams while ill, usually dreams in which he is someone else, like, for example, one of his teachers, and is living their life. He never remembers these dreams, though, and only gets them when sick or injured.
- Michael has always been drawn to fire and writes observations of the shapes he sees in flames in his notebook.
- Finally, Michael can always remember the quantities of medication people are prescribed to take. Even when he normally would have to write that stuff down, with medication, he doesn't, he just instinctively knows.
- As for Emma, sometimes, when on the brink of falling asleep herself, she sees shadowy figures leaning over the others in the room who are in the deepest sleep. She also sees similar shadows in the cars of reckless drivers she encounters.
- In addition, crows and ravens tend to be drawn to her. When she's outside, several can usually be spotted in the trees, watching over her.
- In fourth grade, Emma was assigned a writing project by her teacher. She had to write a short story. She called hers 'Judgement Day' and it was about a girl judging different foods on if they were worthy of existing and making the 'bad' foods vanish from reality.
- One time, a ten year old Emma's classmate who sat at the desk beside her offered to draw her a fake tattoo, and Emma agreed. The classmate drew a skull on her arm in pen. The skull didn't wash off for two weeks, despite Emma taking multiple showers and scrubbing hard at it.
- Then there's Kate. Kate, from a young age, has occasional dreams of other times, whether the future or the past. She'll dream either of past events, like the siege of rhakotis, or future events like the battle of Loris. She only tends to remember the dreams vaguely, or remember bits and pieces that really stick out.
- Kate can remember directions with ease and rarely finds herself lost. She is also good at finding missing items belonging to her or her siblings.
- Kate has always been drawn to the color green, particularly shades of emerald that, if compared to the cover of the atlas, would look very similar. Green is the color she wears most often and she feels connected to and fond of it.
- In addition, Kate has a very accurate awareness of the passing of time. She is good at guessing how much time has passed, and she is also good at knowing when time is running out, slipping away, or dragging on.
Post-Series Headcanons
- Bearing the power of the Books of Beginning altered the Wibberly siblings in little ways, mutating their DNA just slightly so that they experience things differently than normal humans, even now that the books are gone.
- Michael wants to be warm all the time, and likes hot weather, while Emma prefers the cold. (Yes, they do fight excessively over the thermostat. Thanks a lot, books of beginning.)
- Sometimes Emma has moments or even days when food and drink all just seems tasteless and chalky to her, like the food she encountered in the land of the dead.
- Michael is extremely adept now when it comes to reading the emotions flickering across a person's face.
- When watching a movie or tv-show, or reading a book, Emma always accurately guesses which characters will die. She just knows, somehow, that these characters will perish.
- Michael breaks down crying whenever he's around someone else who is crying. He feels as if he is sharing their pain, and cannot stop the tears from flowing.
- When Emma judges something, like, for instance, when she says gummy worms are better than caramel, ordinary humans around her usually agree, even if their opinion had been different before. This only ever happens with small, meaningless things, but it's disconcerting.
- Michael's immune system is a lot stronger than it was before. He now rarely, if ever, gets sick, which he isn't mad about by any means.
- Instead of a ringing in her ears when dizzy or bumped in the head or at high altitudes, Emma hears the screams of the dead's memories.
- Michael applies first aid with an accuracy he never could before, and he's honestly happy about it. In addition to altering him, the chronicle taught him a new respect for life.
- Kate can't stand the sound of clocks ticking. Even if it's insanely quiet she can still hear it, and it drives her mad. She tends to unplug/turn off all clocks so she doesn't have to deal with it. In addition, she doesn't need the clocks to tell the time - she can always estimate what time it is with an accurate guess, now. She also is good at knowing how much time has passed.
- Kate sometimes sees flashes of places as they were in the past while traveling through them. This is especially true for cities and locations with long and interesting histories, particularly NYC.
- Kate always seems to know where she is. She never gets lost and she can remember the layout of places with ease.
- Sometimes, especially when she first wakes up, Kate can't remember what time period she is in, and sometimes she feels like she's having an out of body experience and that she doesn't belong here in her own time. It's very disturbing when this happens.
- When Kate is alone, she has moments where she feels like time has come to a sudden stop, and it scares her senseless each time, occasionally causing her to briefly faint.
- Kate feels restless car rides, because the atlas could take her across the globe in a single second, and car rides just feel so slow and tedious by comparison. Plane rides, and bus rides, are even worse, though train rides are actually better.
- Finally, all three Wibberly siblings feel a void where the magic of the books used to reside within them.
A/N: I find weird magical stuff so interesting, so this was fun to think about. I hope it intrigued you all too.
