Random headcanons about one of my favorite disaster teams: Kate, Michael, Emma, Wilamena, Rafe, Gabriel, and Dr. Pym. With maybe a few references to the next generation sprinkled in because why not.
- Stanislaus Pym is absolutely 100% hopeless when it comes to technology. Even Wilamena can use it without breaking everything, but if Pym tries to log onto the computer you can bet he'll accidentally shut down the WiFi signal for the nearest town. Emma finds this hilarious. Gabriel does not.
- Gabriel and Emma make routine visits to see Gabriel's village and connect with Granny Peet and Dena. No matter what adventures or traveling they get into, they're always on time for a visit.
- Wilamena LOVES hand-making gifts. This has various degrees of success. Sometimes she'll make intricately woven flower crowns for all her friends and sometimes she burns the sugar cookies she's baking.
- Michael once crashed into a streetlight while walking and reading. Emma still hasn't let him live it down.
- Gabriel and Wilamena are early risers. Gabriel because he likes to get an early start to the day, Wilamena because she likes to watch the sun rise. Dr. Pym gets up next, usually, because once the sun's up, he is too. Emma wakes up shortly after because she's a ball of energy. Michael usually sleeps later because he's stayed up late reading. And for the first time, Kate and Rafe don't have to be up early, so they enjoy sleeping in when they can. It certainly helps recover the rest that nightmares cause them to lose.
- The Wibberly siblings started an every other week movie night and invited their friends. It's now a tradition, as is Michael and Emma squabbling over what movie to watch.
- Every time they try to watch a horror movie it ends in disaster. Every time. Emma claims she can handle it then hides behind an unfazed Gabriel the whole time. She only stops to throw popcorn at Michael and tell him to shut up. This is because Michael hates horror movies and screams the whole time. Wilamena shoves her face in a pillow. Dr. Pym either gets profoundly freaked out or falls asleep. Kate handles the psychological stuff pretty well but isn't a fan of the gore. Rafe is the opposite. He gets really into the gory movies but hates the psychological ones.
- Try as he might, Dr. Pym still cannot start a fire without magic. The children regularly tease him for it.
- Hiking is a popular activity among this group. Wilamena and Michael will go hiking on dates, Emma and Gabriel will hike as warrior training, and Kate will hike to clear her mind.
- Emma is very good at climbing trees. Michael is not and Kate had to rescue him from getting stuck several times when he was little. (Bonus: Lili is the only one of the next generation who can actually climb a tree successfully. Jake can manage, but prefers not to).
- Sometimes Emma and Gabriel like to go to the zoo. They both like seeing the lions, and Emma sometimes spends ages looking at the penguins.
- The Wibberly freezer always has multiple types of ice cream in it because everyone has different favorite flavors. Wilamena likes vanilla, Michael likes chocolate, Emma's favorite is cookie dough, Gabriel prefers something fruitier like strawberry, Dr. Pym enjoys pecan, Kate's favorite is cookies and cream, and Rafe honestly doesn't have a favorite so he'll just choose based on what he's in the mood for.
- It is unanimously agreed that when Emma is old enough to drive will be a scary time.
- Speaking of driving, Gabriel is always the driver because he's responsible and an adult. Dr. Pym claims he can drive but he drives do chaotically that Gabriel refuses to let him behind the wheel.
- Michael fears that one day Emma will be taller than him. Emma wants this day to come so badly.
- Wilamena is teaching Michael to read and write in the elvish languages. He's catching on rather quickly.
