Chapter 39 | 'Terror'

"Amy! I'm glad that you're doing well!" Sonic's father greeted me as I sat down beside Sonic.

I smiled, "I'm also glad that you're doing well, Sir 'Mexuis'." He nodded in response before he said, "I see that you and my son have been getting closer these days, me and Mary are glad that the engagement has been working out pretty well." I let out a small laugh as I looked over at Sonic, and as I've expected, Sonic looked at his father with a frown. Eager to change up the subject, I quickly said, "Where is Mrs. 'Mexuis? I haven't seen her here ever since we first arrived by limo."

"Ah, she's backstage with her assistant. Maybe doing some final changes." He replied before he took a sip of his wine. I nodded a smile, "I see."

"So how's school? Have you two kissed yet?" Sonia asked abruptly with a sinister smile. I felt my face get warm before I laughed nervously, "Anyways! School is pretty okay, minus the stress and the workload. I think this semester is gonna be great since there are a lot of changes that the student council has set up for this semester." Sonia still has her sinister smile when she asked again, "Well then, have you two kissed yet?" Before I could answer, Sonic cleared his throat before he stood up. "Excuse me, I need to go to the restroom."

"What's wrong Sonic? Are you having bowel issues or are you just trying to escape again?" Sonic's father snickered, as he kept on rotating his glass of wine. I looked at Sonic, and he was still wearing his frown as he furrowed his brows. "Excuse me then," Sonic said without looking back at me before he walked away. "Geez! Big brother still has those moody moments even at a party like this!" Sonia sighed. "Well, it's because you asked such an inappropriate question. Duh." Manic remarked. "But aren't you curious too? It's so shocking how their engagement is going so well! This a first in a decade--!" Sonia exclaimed.

"On behalf of my sister, Amy I'm really sorry. She tends to be too straightforward and very honest most of the time that she couldn't even think first before asking." Manic cut Sonia off as he put his hand on Sonia's mouth. I laughed and nodded, "It's okay. I tend to be like that most of the time also." 

"Quit it you two, you're making her uncomfortable." Their father scolded making Sonia and Manic zip their mouths shut. Silence followed, and I could feel the awkwardness at our table as each second passes by. I sighed, "To be honest, our relationship at the start wasn't really that great. But of course, we don't have that kind of relationship that you guys keep referring to. We're just acquaintances, nothing more nothing less." I then saw Sonia roll her eyes with a smirk, "Sure, say that to yourself earlier when we were eating brunch." Manic then immediately glared at Sonia, ready to scold her again. But I then softly chuckled, my face burning up as I tried to keep my composure, "It's not what you're thinking, so give up."

"Manic also agrees with me though! The way Sonic looks at you is different, different from how he usually looks at his ex-fiancees!" Sonia recalled. At this point, no matter how much I try to convince Sonia, she'll just keep on insisting that Sonic and I maybe have secret feelings for each other. Before I could answer, all the lights turned off except at the stage. As we focused our eyes on the stage, we then saw Sonic's mom walked out with a big smile on her face as her jewelry twinkled and shined.

"Welcome everyone to the gathering to celebrate the arrival of my two children, Sonia and Manic! To start, I would like for Sonia and Manic to come up on stage for their speech." She said. Sonia was happy and thus, she quickly went on stage to start her speech. While waiting, I saw Manic panicked as he waited for his turn. "What the heck! Mom never told us to prepare for a speech!" Manic mumbled. "You'll be fine, you're a 'Mexuis' after all." His dad smiled before he took another sip of his wine. And all I could do was to let out a small laugh as I saw Manic panic more and trying to convince his dad to help him. Sonic finally returned as I saw him place a cake in front of me, I looked at him with a confused face. "What's this for? Is it poisoned?" I jokingly gasped, pointing at the cake as I looked at him.
