"600 meters to target!" Iris yelled to her comrades. Now that she was a squad leader, a part of her duty was to give out information. This was Iris's fifth expedition, and it still doesn't get easier. The number of nervous breakdowns she had couldn't equate to her feelings now. Here they were again, risking their lives. Now that she was chosen to be a squad leader under Erwin Smith, she couldn't mess things up. She signalled her horse to run faster than before, focusing on the target, Iris waited for the commander's orders.

"Split into the five groups! Group five will be the decoys!" the commander screamed to the top of his lungs. The target was a huge 10-meter titan with its head bigger than the rest of its body. A rather truly despicable sight to see. Iris used her pent-up anger to go faster, more determined than ever. She didn't want to lose more comrades, but knowing that it was impossible that way, angered her. The squadron did as they were told, including Iris. She was a part of the attack group as well as her best friend, Hange. The attack group held the most damage against these large beasts, which explains why only the best of the best were chosen to be in this group. The decoys, which Elise and Moblit were a part of, helped distract their target. Each group has its pros and cons, those who don't have to attack had a lesser probability of dying, but who knows if that's even true or not.

"Captain! 200 meters to target!" Iris screamed, whipping the lead to make her horse run faster.

"Switch to vertical maneuver, attack groups!" Iris nodded as she released her fingers from the trigger that unleashed the iron wire slings. She aimed the grapple hooks toward a large tree and carefully controls her flight, attaching the hooks to another trunk and maneuvering her body quicker. The titan attempts an attack, which some of the survey corps managed to avoid but the others, not so much. One was sent unto the ground after the titan had managed to grab their wires. One person had a stroke of unfortunate luck as his foot was severely bitten off by the titan. The screams of Iris's comrades didn't make things better, her eyes rounded at the sight of a few troops fallen into the ground, dead.

She quickly looks around and notices that the decoys were far too close to the titan's feet.

"ELISE! MOBLIT! GET OUT OF THERE!" Iris screamed to the top of her lungs. Her friend's eyes widened as she turns around. "Shit!" Elise exclaimed. A foot larger than an average house hovered on top of her. She gasped out loud, controlling her horse to avoid the attack.

Iris quickly attempted to move faster. With both hands on her blades, Iris bounced off a tree to gain momentum. As she aimed for the titan's weak spot, Iris crossed both her blades, slashing the nape of the titan with a force stronger than before. The others attacked the beast's eyes, fingers, and feet, slowly weakening its vision. As the titan loses its balance and inevitably falls down, the groups all split into safety. Except for one person.

"The titan's down!" screamed Iris. Noticing the absent look on Iris's face as she stared at the ground, Erwin's eyes gravitate toward where Iris's eyes were glued at.

"Iris..." Erwin walked toward her, his brows furrowed. He knew this was bound to happen, and he had already gotten used to it. Iris, however, seemed to have a heart of gold that Erwin would often think whether or not this job was meant for her. Hange and the others arrive with excitement, excited that they had finally managed to beat what they thought was once impossible to defeat. However, their faces were immediately painted with horror at the sight of their comrade, flattened into the ground. Moblit and Hange fell shook unto the muddy soil, their pupils dilating and shaking.
