"So, what do we do, bro?" asked Isabel. Levi, with his dagger in his hand, inspected it for damages. He then looked at his friend with a slight smirk.
"Do what you always do... talk," said he. And thus, Isabel's plan to befriend Iris had began.
That was a day ago, before their very first training with the squad leader. The truth was, the three weren't sure whether their plan would work or not. But it's at least worth a try.
Iris enters the survey corps grounds, the tapping of her boots echoed as she walked toward the hallway to Erwin's office. There were a few guards that stood beside each door, as Iris walks past them, she was greeted by a salute. She's heard about the rumours regarding her ranks, about how respected she was amongst the troops but she never really acknowledged any of that. Her title of, humanity's greatest, merely got her attention. Ranks or title didn't matter to her. At least, not anymore. Elise, Lida, Frank, Esther and many more, their deaths each weigh on Iris's shoulders. Sooner or later, she would stand atop of all their corpses, alive. Had she listened to Erwin three years ago, she wouldn't have been feeling all this guilt.
But she had already chosen her fate. The soldier that stood beside Erwin's door nodded, permitting Iris to enter.
"Erwin, you called for me?" she stood in front of the captain. His blue eyes were glued on a piece of paper. Having heard her voice, he greeted Iris with a faint smile.
"How's the training?" Iris looked away, "Good. So far, they've shown great skills. Isabel learns fast, Farlan is great at strategic thinking..."
Erwin leans his face on his palm. "And Levi?"
"He's the one with the most potential so far. His movements are great, although he has a few mistakes most likely out of habit." The blond man nodded, satisfied with the report given to him. He then handed over a sheet of paper with a pencil sketch of what looked like an expensive, high-class carriage. Its most notable trait was an emblem of a lion carved on its left.
"What is this?" asked Iris. The sketch was intricate and heavily detailed yet it revealed nothing at the same time. Iris was clueless as to what Erwin is getting at.
"A scout tailing Nicholas Lovof revealed that he had gone near the entrance to the underground city." Iris raised a brow, interested in the topic.
He stood up from his seat and faced his disciple eye to eye. "He's a noble notorious for leading an anti-scouting mission faction and opposes my long-distance enemy scouting formation. Him risking his life to go to the underground city could mean a lot of things, I don't know for sure but it sure does raise a few questions in my head. He was seen riding this carriage. This is where you come in. Recent news says that he's been going around the city forcing people out of their money. He was last seen at Shiganshina District."
Iris stared hard at the sketch. "Find out his motives and why he had gone to that city. You can devise a plan however you want. Scare him." That feeling of uneasiness had come back, while she stared at the sketch, she suspected that the three had something to do with Lovof.
Nodding, Iris replied, "Right. I'll report back to you as soon as possible." Erwin's lips curled into a slight smile, his eyes telling that he was grateful. As soon as Iris walked out that door, her mission had already begun. She knew she couldn't always rely on Moblit and Hange, so she summoned people who she knew were competent. Miche Zacharius, the man who she had recently met was one of them. They agreed on the suggestion to commence the mission when the sun sets, lessening the chances of other people witnessing it.
