"Major, the captain has a message for you..." Mikasa turned to me while pushing her weight against the fat man in blue. "Actually, the captain has a message for all of you," she said flatly, referring to everyone in the room.

Conny Springer and Sasha Braus arrived, their main entrance was a small gate from the rooftop.

Mikasa let out a grunt after she stood up, stepping on the old man's back as she pointed her blade toward his head. "We might not be dealing with the military police this time."

Armin and I looked at each other. The old man huffed and puffed as he was struggling to breathe. "What do you mean?" I asked her, putting my gun back to where it originally was.

The short-haired girl's lips turned into a frown. "The Military Police wouldn't use these amateurs. We're not fighting titans this time. We're against humans."

Tch. That phrase just now sounded awfully familiar. Flashes of what happened at the underground city seven years ago rushed through my mind.

If it wasn't the Military Police, then who else could it be? Suddenly, I thought of Levi. We could be fighting someone else. Someone that was once like Levi. A criminal.

I'm sure he and Hange's squad were busy on the look-out. But if it was this easy to take down their goons, there could be a possibility that this was all a big distraction. One big distraction from something else. If Eren and Historia were really their targets, how come they've only sent six men? Something was not right.

I turned to look at Armin and the rest. "Everyone, wait here for my commands. I'll report back to the captain!" Mikasa nodded, pushing her blade closer to the man's head.

As I flew out of the old warehouse, I rushed toward the place where all of us promised to meet up. They had to make sure that Eren and Historia were safe. And the only place they could do that was somewhere they had an advantage, the high ground. Trost District was known for having small roads and tall houses. If anything, it'd be hard for the enemies to spot Eren and Historia.

I ran north, my breath slowly picking up its pace. I wanted to make sure I would only use my gear when it's needed. I wouldn't want any accidents or mishaps to happen this time. Not after that incident caused by my own stupidity.

Focused and all-ears, I heard the sounds of thundering footsteps behind me. I furrowed my brows. There was no way in hell that could be anyone on my side so I turned around, my gun pointing at the perpetrator. And as if this was a game of Russian roulette, we both had our guns pointing at each other. Tough luck.

A man with shaved hair shot the first bullet but it merely scathed the brick walls on my right.

Bang! I shot once but since we were both running, it was harder for the bullet to hit where we wanted. He ran left when the bullet swerved right. As I continued to shoot a few shots, I finally decided to use my ODM gear. The two grapple hooks released as I continued to release the trigger. And as the hooks retracted, I maneuvered left to get away. At least, that's what I wanted to do.

When I saw three others wearing the same uniform as the man with the shaved hair, I realized they've been waiting for me. My eyes rounded, jaws clenching at the sight. Shit. The success we had earlier was a fake. This was their real plan—to take out all of us so they could have Eren and Historia for themselves. But did they really think I'd go down without a fight?!

I aimed my gear toward a nearby house on the right and managed to get away. Without a clue as to where they'd aim their bullets, I tried to make my movements as unpredictable as possible. If I gain enough leverage and space, I could freely do as I want. But with four annoying enemies aiming for me, it was harder to move around. They had ODM gears, uniforms that was similar to the military police with a few adjustments and two guns attached instead of blades.
