Iris hesitated to enter her home. Just a few hours ago, an argument broke out between her and Erwin. Never in their 4 years of knowing each other had that happened. She clenched her fist and chose to forget, at least for just a moment.

Greeted by her mother, Carla smiled as soon as her step-daughter walked in. "What's with the frown?"

Iris, who had been holding her jacket, dropped her uniform on the ground, smiling sadly. "I retired from the survey corps." Carla stopped between her tracks and stared at the girl for a few good seconds. Sooner or later, she sauntered toward Iris and embraced her in a hug.

"Thank goodness! I'm so glad, Iris. I told you joining was a bad decision. I didn't want you risking your life like that! You don't have to fight outside the walls, we're all safe here!" Iris hesitantly embraced her back. She was worried. Iris was worried more than anything about the lives of her friends. But she already made a decision.

After eavesdropping from the living room, Eren ran toward his big sister angrily. "You quit the survey corps?!" He pouted. No reply left her mouth. What the hell could she say to him? That she left because of her own selfish reasons? She didn't have the heart to say that. So instead, Iris stayed silent and let Carla do the talking.

"Eren! I know how you admire your sister but it's time for her to get a break." She ruffled her son's hair and smiled at the good news that came upon them. Iris returned to her room, exhausted and full of conflict. To make her feel better, Carla had suggested that they cook together. It was fun. Iris finally felt a strange spark, making food was fun and making it with her mother was even better. For the first time, she felt... warm. Like something had been missing all along and this was the missing piece.

Cooking was better than fighting titans, there was no doubt about that. "Iris, I think we lack a few ingredients." Carla sighed after realizing that they couldn't make dessert. She noticed her step-daughter looking strange. Iris had been absentmindedly chopping the air as she stared blankly at the chopping board.

"Iris," she called and Iris snapped out of her trance-like state in an instant. "Run some errands for me. Go buy some flour from the bakery in the city." Iris looked at her. It was evident enough that she wasn't even paying attention anymore.

She agreed and wanted to take a breather while also running some errands, killing two birds with one stone. Iris walked toward the city while her mind wandered. It felt weird walking outside the streets without her uniform on but the joy of realizing nobody looked at her in anger while she strolled felt great. It's obvious that people didn't respect the scout regiment and Iris couldn't blame them. But did they have to look at anyone with the uniform on with resentment? Needless to say, Iris felt like their efforts were unappreciated.

Unbeknownst to her, a certain raven-haired man had already kept her in his watch.

Wearing his cloak and a hoodie over his head, Levi followed her from afar. He knew what he was doing and that thought alone made him want to curse himself. If it was any other man that ordered him to do this dumb thing, Levi would've rejected it in the first place. Since it was Erwin, he had no choice but to comply.

Or did he have to? He had a huge headache trying to come up with a reason as to why he couldn't have just said no. And Levi had an even greater headache when he realized that he felt something different after an order was given to him. Ugh! It was like migraine inception.

He impatiently watched as Iris sauntered all the way to wherever the hell she was going. And upon realizing that a few men in the garrison regiment stopped her for a talk, he quickly rolled his eyes.
