For the past few days, I've learned a lot of things. For one, I learned an astounding secret. Levi was an Ackerman. Not only was it a shocking reveal, but it was something none of us had expected. Now that I thought about it, the name Ackerman sounded awfully familiar just now. Too familiar. In fact, when I learned that, I started to doubt him a little. What other secrets could he be hiding? What secrets could I be hiding that I wasn't even aware of?
The answers appeared before me after we rescued Eren from that dungeon. It had a cave-like structure: the surrounding looked like Annie's crystal form. It wasn't like anything I had seen before. Eren looked like he had given up on the world. Tears pooled his eyes when I walked up to him after a slow terrifying earthquake caused by Rod Reiss. He said something about father, something completely unimaginable. When I heard those words come out of his mouth, it was like my world caved in.
Eren ate Dr. Jaeger—he ate our father. The man who had welcomed me into their home ten years ago had died. That meant that he was hiding something far greater than my parents' secrets—far greater than anything. Dr. Jaeger was a Titan all along. What could that say about my mom and dad?
"You're blanking out again," Levi said. We were scouting the path that Rod Reiss took after he had transformed. A few hours earlier, the scout regiment successfully defeated him out of existence. With Historia's help, we managed to stop what could have been a tremendous loss for humanity. In our hands, we carried a twenty-inch shotgun.
Sighing, I turned to him. "It's nothing."
"Since when were you dishonest about things?" The question shook me to my core. I had always told him how I felt, but he never did with me. How come he's the one coming after my own decisions?
I chose to ignore than speak. Inside the ground was like an opened egg shell, hollow and empty except it had pillars made out of blue crystals supporting its weight. I gripped my gun tightly, squinting my eyes as my head became filled with thoughts.
When Levi let out a slight gasp, I turned to him. There was the familiar face of Kenny Ackerman just right in front of us. Instinctively, I pointed my gun at him.
Paired with a scowl on my face, I glared at him. Kenny raised his palm weakly and chuckled. "No need for hostility," his croaky voice said. Half of his face had a huge inflamed scar, his right side was bleeding profusely. He looked at me, then at Levi.
"Put the gun down," Levi said but I refused to listen. Who knows what type of shenanigan the old man will pull next? The gun clicked as I thrusted it in front of him.
Levi placed his hand on my grip and pushed it away. "I said put the gun down, Schmidt."
"Tsk."
"I knew it..." Kenny began to speak right after I begrudgingly held my gun down. "You look just like your mother." With one look, I thought the old man was talking about Levi. But then his eyes shifted toward me, someone he's probably never seen before this chaos.
My lips parted after realized what he had just said. I couldn't put my gun down any longer. "What do you know about my mom?!" I said, my fingers shaking. Even If I was jumping to conclusions, it was the first time a complete stranger had mentioned them. Kenny coughed up blood, but I couldn't care anymore.
Even after all that pain, the old man managed to put on a bastardly smile. "Life is one surprising son of a bitch. Who knew I'd meet you again." I furrowed my brows and clicked my tongue.
