Iris sat on an empty couch in the headquarter's waiting room, her legs crossed as she stared blankly outside the giant windows. The rest of the scouts and recruits were at the dining hall, eating lunch. Meanwhile, Erwin was off somewhere. It was a rather peaceful afternoon, quite the difference, considering Eren's life was in the hands of old men. She was deep in thought-- too deep in thought that she hadn't noticed Levi approaching her."Oi. The trial is about to start."
"Screw the trial," she huffed, causing Levi to put his hand over her head.
"I thought we talked about this, Iris." Her only reply was a deep sigh. They did talk about it yesterday. In fact, they even argued a little. Everything her friends were doing seemed reckless to her. She was only concerned for her little brother's safety. After all, he's just a fifteen-year-old kid. Levi sat beside her, their eyes locking.
"I'm not letting Erwin use Eren as a tool." He looked away and crossed his arms.
"Yeah. Your concern is justified. But what do you think will happen when those bastards gain custody over him? Either way, the kid has no choice. His ability can change the fate of humanity and it's up to us to use it properly."
"It's just ridiculous. First, I find out that Dr. Jaeger's missing, he probably thought I was dead. And now... Eren's a titan." She rested her elbows on her knees and breathed deeply.
"Four eyes and Miche are already on their way to get the brat. Let's go." Iris gasped and grabbed her boyfriend's hand.
"Are you actually doing it?" Her concern made Levi raise a brow.
The way his eyes narrowed told her that he finally made his choice. "It was your idea but you don't even have the guts to do it. So I'll do it for you." They both stood up, readying themselves for the trial.
When they were walking toward the military court, Levi blurted out a few words that made her nervous. 'If I ever go too far. You can hate me as much as you want.' But even that seemed impossible. Iris couldn't 'hate' Levi even though he can be a prick sometimes. Hating him at this point in their relationship was useless. The only thing that she could do was to trust both him and Erwin.
In the military court, they waited for Eren's arrival. Iris's heart was practically palpitating. The two recruits, Mikasa and Armin, stood opposite Iris. They were staring at her as if they knew the adults were plotting something. Everyone in the room was serious-- suffocatingly serious. The scout, the Military Police and the Garrison regiment stood still with their hands behind their backs. A good amount of citizens were there as an audience.
The silence was deadly. Even the Premiere, Darius Zackly, sat still. When the young man in question had finally arrived, everyone's eyes were immediately on him. Poor kid, the pressure must've been a lot. Even Iris despised the fact that they would go to extreme lengths on a fifteen-year-old. Upon being bound to a pole with handcuffs, Eren quickly looked for his sister. Their eyes met and there was a growing concern on her face. 'Hang in there,' her expression told.
Alas, the trial had begun. Eren was astute all throughout, that is until the premiere brought up a report regarding Eren swinging his fists at Mikasa Ackerman. Meaning, Eren Jaeger had no control within that moment. Iris's eyes were wide after hearing it.
"Is it true that Jaeger, in Titan form attacked you?" asked Darius Zackly.
The girl was indecisive upon telling the truth. "Yes, It's true." Every civilian gasped at the truth. She countered her own point by stating two instances that Eren saved her life but it was quickly countered when the commander of the M.P brought Mikasa's past into it.
