Amelia had everything- family, friends, a promising future- the sky was the limit. But just like that everything was taken from her. One moment she's planning her high school graduation party the next she's laying on a therapist's couch. It was as i...
Elijah stared back at me, his expression filled with both surprise and confusion. It was like looking at a child who'd just had their favorite toy taken away.
"Why is that?" he asked, arching his brow.

My smile deepened into something mischievous. It's amazing what a decent night of sleep can do for the mind. Before I had even made it into work I gathered all of Elijah's appointments and rearranged them all. Not only had I planned out his day schedule- but I even scheduled to have him meet with the head of the psych department.
"You have a meeting with Dr. Morgan at 5:30. He wants to talk methods that are being used during sessions," I informed him.
Elijah continued to stare at me with an unconvinced expression.
"My meeting with Dr. Morgan isn't until the end of the week."
I batted my eyes. "I am well aware of that, Sir. Your schedule was unexpectedly light so I moved the meeting up."
His lips parted but no words came out. That's a first. Had I actually left the man speechless? I could feel Mia cackling in the back of my mind.
It's a true shame that we can't take a picture of the bastard's face right now.
I took my bottom lip between my teeth and bit down in anticipation. So, this is what it felt like manipulating the unyielding Doctor Broderick. It was like jumping out of a plane, plummeting through the air at an insane speed. The adrenaline was its own type of high, one that I thought I'd never experience.
"Poor, Elijah. You're not used to someone else playing you at your own game," I thought to myself.
Just you wait. The man is in for such a rude awakening- it'll knock him on his ass.

Elijah knew there was no way around this meeting. And knowing that, he replaced his look of astonishment with something along the lines of smugness.
"Well then, I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening, Ms. Peterson," he said.
And just like that- the adrenaline rush had died. Only he managed to make me feel bad about switching around his schedule. Was this not what secretaries did for their bosses? Of course our work relationship wasn't exactly ethical in any manner whatsoever, but still. . . For a man who insisted on wanting to be close almost always- he sure acted quick to put a wall up between us just now.
