Amelia had everything- family, friends, a promising future- the sky was the limit. But just like that everything was taken from her. One moment she's planning her high school graduation party the next she's laying on a therapist's couch. It was as i...
My mouth fell open as I watched her turn off all the lights in the car. Both head and tail lights were off. Now I understood what she was doing. By taking away the other cars advantage to see us we were now at an equal disadvantage.

Even though I knew what we were doing was illegal, I actually felt safe. Because of this I believed we had a better chance of escaping this person. I could tell we were close to completely dodging the other car by feeling Mia's emotions. Earlier I had experienced her fear, which left my hands nearly scarred from my nails. But that dark sensation had long passed. . . and now? Now I was getting a taste of something far more alluring, almost intoxicating. Her confidence.
Mia knew how to handle being in control of a situation whatever the circumstances may be. That much I knew. But never realized she would take pleasure in something as dangerous as this. Hurting someone mentally by verbally picking them apart based on simple observation was nothing compared to flying down a highway, going eighty-five miles per hour, putting at least a dozen cars in danger of crashing into one another.
It was as if she had total control over the entire road itself where she correctly predicted the intentions of every other car around us. I am fairly certain that I had never felt such control in my life. Was this how Mia felt about herself all the time? Did she really walk through life feeling such a strong sense of pride and haughtiness?
She shifted the car until we were all the way in the right lane.
"Wait. This isn't our exit."
We're taking the next exit and getting off here. We need to let them think that we're still on the highway.

The moment she pulled off the highway my eyes continuously checked the rear view mirror to see if we were still being followed. I wanted to think that Mia was smarter than the person we were trying to outrun.
I turned my head for a quick second to check on Aralyn, who thankfully was still fast asleep. The last thing we needed was for her to wake up in the middle of a car chase on the highway.
I suddenly felt Mia ease up on the gas. My hands slowly began to relax, leading me to believe that we managed to get away.
