Amelia had everything- family, friends, a promising future- the sky was the limit. But just like that everything was taken from her. One moment she's planning her high school graduation party the next she's laying on a therapist's couch. It was as i...
"Alright, let's get going. I want to make it out of here before the Good Doctor here starts coming to," the woman stated.
I watched as the unknown woman made a move to grab for the duffle bag. I quickly shot out my hand to stop her.

"Why not?"
She swung the bag over her shoulder and shot me a disapproving look.
"I am not about to toss my identity around while standing in a place like this. I have come too far to fuck up now."

I didn't argue any further. From there I followed her out the door, and made the regrettable mistake of looking back over my shoulder one last time. Part of my consciousness couldn't believe it. Was I really leaving Elijah like this?

The pain in my chest began to ease the second I took a breath of the cool night air. I hadn't realized how suffocated I felt until I was standing outside on the front steps. The entire day felt surreal. This morning I couldn't stop my body from quivering with anticipation. Before now, I had entered a haze in which I had no control of my body, leaving me trapped within my own mind. And I allowed myself to take just a few more breaths before moving forward.
I arrived at the car that was parked just down the road. It was obvious that although the sun was down, this woman wasn't taking any chances of being seen from beyond the house. Even when I knew Elijah was still, undoubtedly, unconscious.
