Amelia had everything- family, friends, a promising future- the sky was the limit. But just like that everything was taken from her. One moment she's planning her high school graduation party the next she's laying on a therapist's couch. It was as i...

"Ms. Peterson, although the board finds it astonishing that you're here considering the current circumstances, we are certainly glad to have you back."
My inner voice hissed, "that's because they all think you should have been placed into an asylum, permanently. I don't believe a single word that comes out of this bitch's mouth and neither should you."
My voice held no enthusiasm. "I suppose it was time to come back...given the circumstances." I wanted to smile, anything to show any form of normality. But I couldn't bring myself to do so.
Today was the day I had finally met with the lawyers to discuss the inheritance that was left in my name. My aunt stood in as the executor while my uncle was out of town on business. Regina glanced at me before turning back to Katherine. "Well with the graduation ceremony just days away, we came to make sure that Amelia is cleared. She has completed the rest of her finals that her teachers were nice enough to send her."
Katherine adjusted her glasses and looked over at her computer screen. A picture perfect smile appeared on her face.
"Oh yes, Amelia will be able to walk down on graduation day along with her other classmates," she said happily.
The voice in my head mocked the woman. "Oh how wonderful, you get to walk down the aisle with all the other drug addicted, screw balls. Yippee."
The only people that were excited about me graduating were my mother and sister. They had me spend an entire Saturday picking out dresses and looking at ideas for decorating my cap. My mother was even planning on throwing me a humongous party. But suddenly everything came to a halt... who will be there for me when I walk up to that podium? Will anyone else clap for me?
I was not going to find out.
I squared my shoulders, keeping my eyes covered by the sunglasses. I never went anywhere without them. Even in my last few weeks of school I wore them throughout class until I got home. Hiding was something that I was naturally good at before everything happened.
