"Where is he?" My voice was monotone. My body stood still as I peered out the window of my old house back in New Jersey. It was the middle of June. I think.

It was two in the afternoon and the sky was growing darker by the second. I decided to stay home from school that day, even after my doctors cleared me. They believed it would be best for me to go about my normal life like nothing happened. However, Aunt Regina didn't want to push me. Something always made me feel like that woman was cautious around me. Like she knew what I already knew.

I had plans for heading back into school at some point. Uncle Chris was right, I did need to graduate, apparently. But I wasn't ready to step back outside into the world and play pretend. Pretend that everything was okay. Pretend that I hadn't just lost everything.

My fingers glided over the cool glass of the window, following the raindrops that streaked down. The temperatures were rising by the day which meant we were in for severe thunderstorms all through the night.

Aralyn insisted on staying over until I was ready to leave the house

Aralyn insisted on staying over until I was ready to leave the house. At first it felt like such an inconvenience because I didn't like the idea of being followed around. On the other hand, time proved me wrong. I grew used to her company and felt gloomy when she would leave for school and work.

"Uncle Chris?" She questioned.

"No. Where is Jason?"

Jason Scott was the kind of guy that every guy wants to be and the kind of guy every girl wants to date. His wavy hair was always spiked up, revealing his baby blue eyes which screamed trouble. He owned a motorcycle before he owned a car because he liked living on the edge and not caring about what everyone else thinks. He was a complete 80's movie cliché.

I knew he was bad news from the moment he asked me for help on an english assignment back when we were juniors. With his innocent smile and dimples stabbing me in the gut I had no choice but to say yes. Our relationship consisted of staying up late watching movies, texting, and talking about our futures as if we were in control of them. It wasn't long after until we made it publicly known that we were dating.

No matter what happened, he promised that he would never let me fall. If I did then he would catch me. And, in return, I promised him that I would always be there to help pick up the pieces if he were to fall apart. So much for promises.

"Amelia, there something you need to know," Aralyn's voice was low. I knew the answer before she said anything. Jason wasn't coming. The son of a bitch didn't even show up at the hospital when I finally woke up. Then again, no else did either.

I turned my head. She had worry written all over her face. My eyes dropped down to her hands which were clutching her phone. Slowly she raised the phone for me to take.

"What is it?"

"It's Ebony. She just posted a new pic."

I examined the photo on the screen. It took me a full minute to process what I was looking at exactly. It was a picture of Ebony wearing a new red dress that showed off her chest and slender hips. Her arms her wrapped around Jason's neck, his arms held her tightly. She was kissing him. I flipped to the second photo which only showed the two of them posing closely, the way a true couple would.
