Part X - "Temporarily"

For the next twenty minutes I went over everything that occurred from the second I stepped into Dr. Broderick's office to that very moment. As expected, Aralyn ate through two bags of popcorn and had already consumed an entire pack of red vines.

She giggled like a school girl when I mentioned the inadvertent flirting along with the innocent skin contact of his hand on my back. I told her about Charlotte and her husband John. From that point on, she couldn't hide her enthusiasm over the idea of there being another man that looked like Dr. Broderick. Honestly, who could?

"It sounds like you have your work cut out for you," she smiled. Yeah, you could say that.

Between the inconsistent emails, Dr. Broderick's overpowering sex appeal, and the ongoing death glares from the other female patients- which Charlotte was kind enough to inform me about- I was going to be pretty busy for the next few months.

According to what I've been told, Veronica wasn't the only woman who held a torch to the man. Within the past two years over a dozen women of numerous ages and social backgrounds had frequented his office claiming they needed help.

Charlotte had inadvertently mentioned the price these women were paying per session. Let me just say that I have never spent more than forty dollars on a pair of shoes, so I know damn well that I would never drop close to four hundred for an hour with an attractive man.

Yes, an attractive man that I wouldn't even be allowed to touch.

It was obvious that money wasn't a problem for some of these women. But I was curious to know more about the ones that couldn't sign off on their checks all willy-nilly. As far as I knew, the psychiatric department hadn't developed any kind of monthly payment plan. So it had me thinking, how far would these women go if it meant spending just one hour alone with the doctor?

Speaking of doctor, I almost forgot about the text message he had sent me an hour ago.

I curse under my breath and quickly open my phone.

"What's wrong?" Aralyn asked.

"Dr. Broderick sent me a text and forgot to open it." Her eyes lit up with excitement.

"Read it out loud!" I pulled up the message and began reading through it.

To: Amelia

From: Dr. Broderick

Thank you for agreeing to meet with me this morning, Ms. Peterson. I apologize for not being able to see you out before. From what Charlotte tells me, you seem more than capable of taking her place and getting the job done. Even if it is just "temporarily". I look forward to seeing you behind the reception desk on wednesday.

My lips twisted uncontrollably. I hadn't even officially started working there and already we had a private joke between us.

Aralyn took the phone from me and read over the message at least three times.
