The sudden noise at the door had my body jerking away from him. Both of our attention was centered on the person who stood on the other side of the office door. It took me a moment to realize that I had previously texted Aralyn before I was called in here.

Oh shit.

"Who is that?" He asked.

"Aralyn," I began walking over to the door.

"Your roommate?" I felt his hand grab my arm. "Wait, why is she.."

"I texted her to come and pick me up."

Elijah moved until he stood between me and the door.

"You didn't drive here yourself?"

Nope. There is no way you're going to tell him about what happened this morning. It's amazing enough how he hasn't already sensed something is off.

"I just didn't feel like driving today

"I just didn't feel like driving today." My breathing grew unsteady and struggled to keep eye contact with him. "Today was my last day of classes and I was already tired from helping Aralyn pack up the room..."

Stop rambling! The more you talk the more obvious you're being. Just remain calm and move around him. The door is within arm's length away, just turn the knob and get the hell out of there.

For once I was thankful for the voice in the back of my mind for coaching me through this. There was no telling what I would have said if I kept babbling away. I was downright anxious  about how Elijah would react.

"Amelia? Are you there?" Aralyn's muffled voice spoke from the other side.

"Yes, Aralyn." I called back.

"Okay, I got your stuff together. Are you ready to go?"

I turned to Elijah, waiting for his response. The work day may have ended when Veronica left, but I held a strong feeling that this day was far from being over. When I caught a glimpse of his famous, heart stopping, smirk a little bit of the pressure lifted. But I still wasn't out of the woods yet.

"You may go," he affirmed. "I'll see you on Monday then."

I gave him a curt nod before swinging the door open to find Aralyn patiently waiting for me on the other side. Just like every other woman who catches a look at Dr. Broderick, her eyes grew wider as well.

Except my friend is missing the mental filter that's supposed to catch the inappropriate remarks that tend to fall right out of her mouth. So when I opened the door, the first words that came out where none other than,

"Holy shit," she sputtered.

My eyes narrowed at her forwardness.

Behind me I heard a deep chuckle coming from Elijah, who sounded all too flattered by her comment.

"You must be the roommate," Elijah extended his hand to her. Without hesitation, Aralyn graciously shook his hand as though he were a movie star.

"Amongst other things, but yes- I am the roommate," she said. "And you're the doctor, who doesn't look like he should be a doctor." Yep, there's that no filter I was talking about.
