Really? Of all the things to ask this was what you came up with? I could feel the inner voice  scowling at me and shaking its head in disappointment.

My eyes grew so wide I was sure they were going to pop out like an old cartoon. How in the hell could I have possibly asked such a question? It was one thing for me to play along with Dr. Broderick and his flirtation indications when it was just him and I in his office. But it was something completely different when it involved his secretary.

"I'm so sorry." My eyes fell to the floor, I couldn't even bring myself to look into her the eyes. This woman had been nothing but courteous and helpful through this entire new process; and here I was fucking everything up.

However, the reaction I was initially expecting, shouting and cursing, was nowhere to be seen. Charlotte held her chest and began to burst out laughing. She laughed so hard she struggled to sit down behind the desk. Instinctively, I went around the side and made sure she was okay.

I went from experiencing a feeling of dread to puzzlement in seconds. My brows drew together. "Did I miss something just now?"

Charlotte shook her head; but, still continued to laugh in spite of the crude question I asked her.

She managed to speak through her giggles. "Elijah. . .is my. . .brother-"

"What?"

She sucked in a large breath of air. "Brother-in law." Clearing her throat, she wiped the tears from her eyes. "He's my brother-in law." Charlotte held up her phone and pressed the home button. The screen showed a well dressed couple sitting at a table in a restaurant. It was her and her husband.

"I'm married to his younger brother, John." I took the phone from her to get a better look at the man. I'm not gonna lie, he was beautiful too. It was too uncanny how similar Elijah looked to his brother. The two of them shared the same breathtaking blue eyes that could knock up any girl from just one glance.

No pun intended there, Charlotte.

Both brothers had a strong and sharp jawline

Both brothers had a strong and sharp jawline. John's hair happened to be a few shades lighter than Elijah's. His eyes held a promise of adventure and thrill seeking, whereas his brother's carried an entirely different look of erotic play that could never be satiated. John didn't look as broad as Elijah but he looked like he made up for it in other ways. Such as muscle.

I had only ever seen Elijah in his usual work attire which consisted of dark pants and a nice dress shirt. But, I had no doubts that underneath all of that professional fabric was a body that could stop oncoming traffic.

Still examining the photo, something suddenly caught my attention. From the neckline of John's pale blue dress shirt, there were streaks of black ink poking out from under it. The man had a large tattoo that covered the upper part of his right arm.

I, myself, was no stranger to the jabbing sensation of a tattoo needle. Over the course of the past six years I had collected a total of four. Most of which I actually remember getting. I had one placed on the inside of my right ankle, another one behind my right ear, and a third one over my heart on my left breast. The fourth tattoo was placed on the inner part of my upper, left arm. To my dismay, I still can't recall ever getting the last one. But, as time went on I slowly began to understand what it meant.
