Part LXVI - ". . . Into the dark"

My vision fades in and out of focus as I sway back and forth to the music being played. This music was not upbeat, nor was it coming from some half-assed DJ. Instead the sweet, sensual melody came from the small group of musicians playing intently across the room.

As for people, the room was indeed crowded. However there was an ample amount of space between us all to where we were able to move freely if we wished. Tables and chairs were set up along the outer parts of the room. A majority of the women looked young as they wore expensive, one of a kind, formal gowns paired with priceless jewelry. Some of them were chatting in close knit groups around the room. Others saddled themselves up to the bar in hopes of capturing the attention of any man nearby.

It was easy to tell who was here for a quick midnight hook up just by gazing at their appearance. Sitting just a few feet away from me was a woman, possibly in her late twenties, whose dress did very little to conceal  herself. A small crowd of men flocked around her. But she didn't seem to mind. She was the type of person who adored receiving attention. The kind of person that will flirt unconditionally only to leave your text messages left on "read".

What was I doing in a place like this?

I tried to focus intently on my eye sight coming back because I didn't have a single idea where I was. All I managed to see through the blur of my sight was a dark figure hovering close around me. I felt their hands on my waist, leading me through the dance with careful steps.

The dark navy blue gown I wore just reached the top of my four inch heels. I was dazzled by how the dress lifted whenever my partner chose to twirl me. The material glistened each time the light hit, giving off an enchanting shimmer like diamonds.

A strange, masculine voice spoke

A strange, masculine voice spoke.

"You seem distracted this evening."

I wanted to ask where the hell I was. Why was I here? And who was I dancing with? But, as usual, a different set of words came out instead.

"I keep feeling like he's going to figure out the truth sooner rather than later." My eyes darted all around the room, like I was waiting for someone to step out.
