Amelia had everything- family, friends, a promising future- the sky was the limit. But just like that everything was taken from her. One moment she's planning her high school graduation party the next she's laying on a therapist's couch. It was as i...
Thankfully, I managed to complete my final paper for my philosophy class while still signing people in and out. I grew into the habit of constantly checking my email for new messages that could've been sent in- as well as keeping tabs on who Dr. Broderick was expecting in his office within each passing hour. In and out, patients were headed to and from his office.
Some wore a look of consolation where others held no change after their hour. Deep down I felt a sense of pity for those that walked out looking just as helpless as when they first walked in. There's nothing worse than the feeling of broken hope. It's like a disease that takes its time to spread through your body until it reaches your heart and kills you.
Well, aren't we a ray of friggin sunshine today.
I couldn't help but take notice of Veronica's expression of building anticipation as I watched her glide through his door.
You would think this woman was walking down the aisle on her wedding day.
Her hair was partially up and loosely curled. This time she wore an off the shoulder, black and white striped dress that reached her knees with a pair of two inch heels. Her makeup looked professionally done, and this time she had chosen to go with a smokey eye. The same look Aralyn had done for me a few days ago.
When Veronica first walked into the reception room, she had instantly locked her eyes on me. The way a cat stalked a goldfish. With clear bad intentions. There was no hiding her dislike for me, because through her eyes I was nothing more than a threat to getting what she wanted. An obstacle, unknowingly, standing in her path that waited to be taken down.
I just hoped that Dr. Broderick would come to the realization that what she really needed was beyond his abilities as a doctor in his position. If he was smart he would give Veronica a referral to a different doctor, preferably female, and allow her to move on with her life.
Geez. You know if I didn't know any better, I'd say you just want Ms. Cross out of the picture so you can be the only one to ogle the Doc. all day.
"Oh, just shut up," I said in my head.
All chances of decent expectations were smashed to pieces when I saw Veronica leaving his office. She was smiling ear to ear like and evil clown that wanted the souls of innocent children. This can't be good.
She strolled up to the front desk and clicked her nails against the countertop. I clipped a blank evaluation to a clipboard with a pen and held it out for her to take.
"Please fill this out, Ms. Cross."
Taking the clipboard from me, Veronica stood at the desk and leisurely took her time filling it out. I tried to focus back on my work, but I felt her eyes beaming at me like two high powered headlights.

"Who are you exactly," her voice was laced with entitlement. I bit down on my tongue. Hard.
