"I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you." He whispers. "I just don't want you to catch a cold."
Once I realize I'm not in fact dreaming I launch myself onto him hugging him as tight as I can. The action knocks him over and we both wind up on the floor laughing.
"I missed you too, birdy." He chuckles.
I smile at the nickname, it was one he only ever called me once before when we were both back with Hydra when he had gotten sick of calling me Throne.
"I'm not going to let go any time soon." I say, my voice is muffled by his chest.
After a minute or so he sighs, "The floor is really uncomfortable can we at least move to the bed if you're going to keep this up."
"Whoops." I help him up to his feet and we crawl into the bed.
"There are still a lot of blank spaces. A lot of things are missing, birdy. Things I should know. Things you should know." He's rubbing my wings absentmindedly as he talks.
I look up at him. "Then let's start where we need to and go from there."
"Alright birdy. I never knew your name, they called you Throne back in Hydra but that's not your name." Bucky starts.
"Magdalene. Magdalene Lore de Laytha. And I know your name Bucky Barnes." I smile.
"Lore?" He asks
"My moms name was Lore. It meant flower." I say.
He nods. "My moms name was Winnifred. I was the oldest of four kids. Did you have any siblings."
I shake my head, "Not that I can remember. My memories only go back to pulling you out of the Danube. Before that pretty much everything is blank still. Most of what I know comes from a file."
"I'm sorry, birdy." He holds me a little closer.
"I read parts of one of your journals, I'm sorry. I know it was wrong of me to do so. It would be just as bad as going into your mind and reading your thoughts." I run a hand through my hair and let out a huff of air.
He takes a moment before answering, "It's okay." He looks at me quizzically, "Can you actually do that though? Read through my thoughts?"
"Technically yes. I don't because it would be an invasion of privacy. The closest I would come to it is in Hydra when I would put your mind back together after they would wipe you. That required some digging." I rub my arm, uncomfortable at the subject.
"If you could do that could you have given me all my memories back?" He asks with baited breath.
I shake my head sadly, "No. I tried once but it was beyond what I could do. The furthest back I could in your memories is when I pulled you from the river. I don't know if it's because I didn't know you before then, or if my abilities aren't strong enough."
"You still did a lot, birdy. Who knows how bad my mind would have been without you putting it back together each time we went on a mission." He gently kisses the top of my head.
"I never stopped looking you know. Once I got out. Steve and I, we took down tons of Hydra bases. I didn't know you were even free of them, that you had been free longer than I had, until right before all this mess with the accords. No one told me. But all that time, I never gave up on you." I sit up and cross my arms over my knees, resting my head on them. "You were easier for hydra to control because they could wipe your brain, but they couldn't with mine. Whatever mental abilities I had been given stopped that. So to keep me in line they would hurt you. Once I was out I spent many nights with night terrors of the torture they would inflict on you. I still have them."
Bucky sits up too. "What about the torture they inflicted on you? Didn't that scare you."
I shrug. "After a while it all blended together, it lost its effectiveness. Hydra used us both to keep each other in check."
Bucky rubs his eyes, "They messed us both up."
