"I get it okay? I get the attitude, I do. You didn't think that the shield was gonna end up here. I get it, Bucky." He calls out before turning to me and Sam. "And I'm... I'm not trying to be Steve. I'm not trying to replace Steve. I'm just trying to be the best Captain America I can be. That's it. It'd be a whole lot easier if I had Cap's wingmen on my side."
Sam scoffs, "Its always that last line." Sam climbs out of the car and heads after Bucky.
I look between them. "Look John, Lemar. There's a whole lot of things you guys can't possibly understand. And you," I point to John, "you need to cool it. You are not the be all end all, man in charge, hot shit, you think you are. I meant what I said about not only earning that shield but the title you have right now. If you want us to stand beside you, not behind you, then you have to earn that. We don't just give it."I shake my head and walk away. Out of the two of them Lemar seems to have the better head on him.
The walk back to the airport as well as the start of the flight stays relatively quiet. Sam and I are each laying down on benches while Bucky sits on a crate.
"You alright?" Sam asks Bucky.
"Let's take the shield, Sam. Let's take the shield and do this ourselves." He looks to me, "I know you want to Magdalene."
"We can't just run up on the man, beat him up, and take it." Sam tells him before sitting up.
"It's not a simple answer Buck." I say softly.
"Do you remember what happened the last time we stole it?" Sam asks him.
"Maybe." Bucky says not wanting to admit the truth he already knows.
"I'll help you in case you forgot. Sharon was branded enemy of the state, and Steve and I were on the run for two years. And I don't know about you, but I don't wanna live the rest of my life la vida loca. We just got our asses handed to us by super soldiers, and we got nothing." Sam tells him.
"Not entirely true." Bucky shakes his head before getting up and coming to sit down next to Sam. "There is someone that is you should meet."
Bucky looks at me and I nod, I know exactly who he is talking about. But I also know he won't be happy to see us either. We change course to Baltimore.
The three of us walk down the street of a suburb. My wings tucked away so we don't raise any unnecessary attention.
"Hey, it's Black Falcon. What's up?" A kid yells to Sam.
"It's just Falcon, kid." Sam explains.
"No, no. My daddy told me it's black falcon." The kid insists.
Sam stops next to the kid, "Is it because I'm black and I'm the falcon?"
"Well. Technically. I mean. Yes." The kid stammers out.
"So are you like black kid?" Sam asks him teasingly.
The kid sighs, not having an answer.
Sam laughs, "I got him, right?" He pats the older kid on the shoulder before catching up to Bucky and I.
"Still think this is a good idea?" I ask Bucky at the top of the steps to the house.
"No." Bucky says knocking on the metal screen door.
A teenager opens the door but doesn't say anything.
"We're here to see Isaiah." Bucky tells him.
"Nobody names Isaiah lives here." He responds.
Bucky sighs, "Look, we just want to talk to him."
"You must not hear what I just said. You ain't getting in this house. Y'all can leave now." The kid tells us.
"Tell him the couple from the bar in Goyang is here. He's gonna know what that means." Bucky tells him.
"All right, wait here." The kid tells us.
