Bucky begins, "The weakest point in any system isn't the software, the hardware, it's the meatware. The human element. Now in this lockup, it's nine to one, prisoners to guards. And if two prisoners start fighting, then the protocol says four guards have to respond."
"So why would two prisoners randomly start fighting at that moment?" Sam asks.
"Who knows? There could be many reasons. But the point is, these things escalate. Lockdown procedures would have to be initiated, and with all those bodies flying around left and right, wouldn't be hard to slip down a hallway or two. And if the fire alarm got tripped while the prisoners were being separated someone could use the chaos to their advantage." Bucky is far to calm about it.
"I don't like how causal you're being about this. This is unnatural. Are you-And where are we, man?" Sam asks.
A door opens to our left and Zemo walks through.
"Whoa. Whoa. Whoa." Sam says. "What are you doing here?"
Anger courses through me. I slam into Bucky, lifting him up by the collar of his jacket and off the ground as I flap my wings. "You let him out! That's why you wouldn't let me go in with you, you sneak!"
Bucky glances between me and Sam, gripping his jacket arm. "No, listen. I didn't want to tell you cause I knew you wouldn't let this happen. Okay."
"What did you do?" Sam shouts.
"We need him. Can you put me down please?" He looks at me.
I glare at him before dropping my grip on his collar and he drops the few feet to the ground.
"You're going back to prison!" Sam yells to Zemo.
"If I may," Zemo starts taking off the guard hat.
"No!" We all yell at him in Unison.
Zemo nods, "apologies." He whispers.
Bucky faces Sam, "When Steve refused to sign the Sokovia Accords, you backed him. You broke the law and you stuck your neck out for me. I'm asking you to do it again."
"I really think I'm invaluable-" Zemo tries again.
"Shut up." Sam says to him.
Sam shakes his head, "Okay."
"Okay?!" I ask. "You had no right to do this Bucky!"
"You went to him! Yeah he told me you talked to him." Bucky yells back.
"But I never broke him out of jail!" I say turning around and rubbing my temples.
Bucky walks over to me and gently grabs me by the shoulders having me face him. He talks softly, "Birdy, I know. I know how you feel. But we need him." He looks into my eyes waiting for my response. That jerk. He knew using Birdy against me would work.
"Damn you." I say. "Alright."
"If we do this, you don't make a move without our permission." Sam tells Zemo.
"Fair." Zemo responds.
"Okay Zemo, where do we start? Sam asks.
I already hate this.
Zemo takes us to a warehouse, one I've been to before.
"So our first move is grand theft auto?" Sam asks.
"These are mine. Collected by family over the generations. I spent years hunting people Hydra recruited to recreate the serum. Because once it's out there someone can create an army of people like the avengers." Zemo tosses me a duffel bag. "These are yours."
"What do you mean those are hers?" Bucky asks.
"Do you want to tell them or shall I?" Zemo says, I can hear the smirk in his voice.
I sling the bag on my shoulder. "During the blip I needed intel on hydra. Zemo was willing to share and give me access to his resources," I gesture around, "in exchange I take out certain Hydra targets on his behalf and report back."
"Really?" Sam asks. "You worked for that psycho."
"What do you think we are doing now. I didn't have any other leads I had flushed those out. Zemo did. And the targets he wanted dead, I wanted dead too." I say in my defence.
"She performed beautifully, you should have seen her." Zemo eyes me down, "A true killer."
"Don't push your luck." I hiss.
