"Are you sure we can trust Phil?" Dream asked, voice imperceptibly shaky once the man in question had gone out hunting.

"One hundred percent." Techno affirmed, understandably passionate. "We've been through a lot together, there's been dozens of times when logic dictated that we should've betrayed each other, we've stuck together on projects through thick and thin. I've lost a lot of faith in the world over the years, but I still trust Phil with my life, with everything I care about."

Dream stayed silent for a second, looking at him with calculating eyes beneath his mask. "Huh." He continued on his task, methodically rolling up tubes of sand and gunpowder. "How old are you anyway?"

With a confused glare, Techno replied. "Uh... a hundred something. Why?"

"Really!" Dream's task was abandoned. "Are you a piglin or hoglin then? I've never seen a beastfolk live past eighty, and you don't appear elderly..."

"Nope, I'm a pig. And no, I'm not half ethereal, Phil's only ever claimed to be my adopted parent. What's with all this digging into my biology?"

"I just find it fascinating. You could be half pig, half piglin, but you'd probably know, and I think the math works out that you'd still be past your prime if you were..." Dream hummed in fascination, eyeing him up and down, searching for features in a very nosy way.

"Well what about you?" Techno blurted in protest. "All these questions about my lineage, do you have some rabbit dna mixed into boring human or something?"

"Haha, no." He said a bit to quickly, hurrying up with his investigation.

Techno smiled, he could see the hesitation behind his movements, patterns all too apparent when they fought. "You aren't human are you, it's something way more interesting." He saw Dream freeze for just a moment, his hands instinctually jutting up towards his face. "What, you have some hideous amalgamation of features behind that mask?"

Techno grabbed at it, and they started sparring. Both put up a valiant effort, but since Dream was forced into defense, he had the disadvantage, which meant that eventually Techno was able to pin him down and rip off the pearly white mask.

What appeared were two glowing eyes, lime green and very familiar. The same ones Phil had. Below them were a plethora of tiny golden stars brushed across his cheeks, a few of them connected with faint lines to form constellations. "Half ethereal. Huh."

Dream grimaced and pushed Techno away, clearly upset about his secret being revealed. "If you must know, I'm pure bred." In reluctant stubbornness, he licked his fingers then dragged them through a few strands of hair, cleaning away the dirt from the dirty blond to reveal shining gold, also just like Phil's.

"Why are you even disguising yourself, who cares if you're ethereal. No one cares about Phil or Bad."

"I have to give them a bit of hope, I'm already one of the strongest people on the server, if anyone knew I'm six times, seven times older than them, it'd be obvious, it wouldn't be as fun when I repeatedly embarrass them." With his mask off, Techno could finally notice the crazy glint in his eye shining brighter than his fluorescent pupil. "Anyway, you know my secret now, it's time I learned yours."

"Sorry, but you can't pry it out of me, my parents abandoned me." Techno replied a little too smugly in contrast with the subject matter.

Dream merely hummed in concentration, focused on the mystery in front of him. Then, something clicked. "You're a shapeshifter aren't you?" He announced, a proud smile curling his features.

"A what?" Techno deadpanned.

"You know, like Skeppy. They're usually much more secretive though."

"Oh yeah." Recalling Skeppy, he remembered his permanently crystalline finger nails and how expressions seemed to appear on the box on his head. "I've never shapeshifted though."

"Oh come on, look at that muscle tone, that height, I've never seen beastfolk get over 5 and a half." Dream started poking around, touching him more than normal to emphasize his points. "Sure you never transformed completely, but I think you have been shapeshifting subconsciously through your work outs."

"Huh." Techno was taken aback, hardly acknowledging Dream's continued prodding. "I'm not a pig, my life's a lie."

"No no, you're probably half-pig still, half-shapeshifters resemble their other parent and can go their whole lives not knowing. At least that's what Eret says."

"Eret? What's he got to do with this?" Techno turned around to see green eyes glowing from behind his cape where Dream was obviously hiding. He smirked. "Does Eret have a fun secret as well?"

"Er, um-" Dream stuttered, clearly knowing he couldn't get out of this one. "He's a shapeshifter too, his dad was half and never knew it."

"Wow, you're so eager to share secrets today." Techno tugged away his cape and glowered down at Dream, smiling. "Any more you'd like to tell me before I weasel them out?"

Nervous but cocky, Dream huffed a chuckle. "Didn't think you wanted to learn new things so badly, I suppose I could help you out with that. Where do you want to start?" He suggested, eyes flickering slightly down to Techno's lips as he spoke.

For a moment, Techno's eyes widened a bit, now noticing the weighty tension hanging precariously between them. Who knows what could've happened if Phil hadn't walked in.

"Alright, I think we have enough food. How's you two's progress going?" Luckily, Dream happened to be hidden from Phil's view by Techno, giving him enough time to scramble his mask back on, the two turning away from each other as soon as he was done. "What? What have you two been doing this whole time? We need way more supplies!"

The next day, L'Manberg was destroyed. It was chaotic, it was beautiful, it was amazing. Whenever Techno would get bored of effortlessly fending off his foes, he would look up and Dream dancing above them all on the obsidian scaffolding, feeling the wind made warm from the explosions, a manic smile surely on his face. He'd go all day if he had to.

That evening, they all celebrated at Techno's cottage, drinking and reminiscing on the destruction the three caused. Phil passed out early, so after putting him to bed, it was just Techno and Dream left, drunkenly laying against each other on the couch, Dream's mask discarded.

"If I'm a shapeshifter, does that mean I can shape shift?" Remarked Techno.

"Yeah, if you try hard enough." Dream half heartedly quipped.

"Could you teach me?" Techno asked, turning his head to meet Dream's, getting a close up view of the stars on his cheeks tipped in green from the light of his eyes. He really was an ethereal, he had their beauty at least.

"What do you want to turn into?" From where they were positioned, Dream could feel hot, alcohol laced breath on his cheek.

"Anything you'd like." Thoroughly drunk and high on bloodlust, their lips clashed in an explosion of tongues and spit. Greedily they gnawed on each other, licking up the sweet, hot passion. Eventually, they both learned a few new things about the other's biology.

{yes, Dream's (and Phil's) eyes literally glow like a firefly's butt)
