Village life was always boring for Dream. Days were the same and blended into each other, his parents were strict, and his life was set out for him. It was torture growing up, and despite what everyone told him, he never got used to it.

One of the main rules his parents had for him, a sentiment it seemed the whole village shared, was to never enter the woods. It was a taboo, and there were countless horror stories told to him when he was a kid of what could happen.

But Dream wasn't afraid, the stories were certainly all made up to scare children, and even if they weren't, it'd still probably be better than following the life set out for him in the village. That's why, during a festival he didn't care about, when most were drunk, he ran away. After slipping out of the crowded streets, he went straight to the woods.

For a second he stood on the precipice, feeling the wild, anxious thrill of breaking the rules, as well as the overwhelming pressure of something else. It called to him, and he had made his decision long ago. Boldly, he entered the woods.

The greenery seemed foreign in a way he couldn't explain, and even the birds seemed to sing a different tune. He wandered the forest in a marvel, absorbing the new environment. The air was fresh and sweet.

Then, he heard the distinct, growing sound of horses trotting towards him. Dream's first thought was that it was the village people, already sober and coming to drag him back, so he hid, crouched behind a bush.

He kept still, barely daring to breathe. The horses drew ever closer, but he kept his eyes averted. Then, they started to pass, and Dream felt an overwhelming presence. Somehow he could feel majesty radiating in the air, causing every fiber of his being to want to bow down before whatever was on horseback.

Until one horse stopped. From what it sounded like, it stopped directly behind him. Every logical part of him screamed to stay still, but the rest of him agreed that he had to at least get a glance. As he turned his head, his eyes widened.

Before him was the most breathtakingly beautiful creature he had ever seen. He had a strong, masculine face with skin that seemed like it was glowing and ruby eyes that sparkled a million shades in the light. His long pink hair was draped perfectly over his muscular frame, leaves and vines accenting parts of arm and hair. The wavy strands were blowing gently in the wind, revealing their softness in contrast to the crown made of old pale metal sitting delicately as a cherry on a cake. Every inch of him radiated beauty and royalty.

And then the being looked at him, directly in the eyes. Dream felt as he got shot in the heart, his breath hitching and his face flushing as those kaleidoscope eyes looked into his soul. It was only then that he noticed the pointed ears and realized what he was facing.

Most of the village stories mentioned fae, tricky creatures who lured people in and never did nice things to them. Some said they were killed, some enslaved, and some mysteriously said they were never seen again. The fact of the matter was that the village people were right.

"Who are you, what are you doing here." The man on the horse spoke in a voice that reverberated through the space and pierced his soul.

"My name is Dream, I'm running away." His voice spoke before he could process whether he wanted to, though he would've likely responded no matter what.

"Dream..." The man hummed, playing around with the name in his mouth. "I am Techno, king of the faeries. You may come with me if you'd like." Something told Dream that he didn't have a choice.

Techno reached out a hand, and he caught it, the touch intoxicating and his skin soft as satin. Effortlessly, the king pulled him up onto his horse so that Dream was cradled between his arms. With a wave of his hand, Techno signal his procession to resume moving. Before this point, Dream had forgotten about the horses and other creatures following him.

The castle didn't look like a castle from the outside, merely a small glen with an oddly shaped set of trees, but once they entered, Dream was blown away with the extravagance of it all. Marbled halls, complex vases, chandeliers, it was beyond his imagination.

After the rest of the procession split off, Techno led him to a room a little ways from the rest. The first thing he noticed was a fae with curly brown hair dancing in the middle of the room with a human who had short pink hair. Upon closer look, there were even more humans. He saw two chatting on a couch, a few at a makeshift kitchen, and more milling about.

There were also some fae with them. On another couch a young looking blonde fae was sleeping on the shoulder of a human with messy brown hair and a green shirt. In a small corner, a fae in bright cyan robes was peppering kisses over the face of a human with a dark hooded tunic and glasses. It was certainly interesting.

"This is where you'll be spending most of your time, where all the other humans are. Most fae visit here to spend time with them but..." As Techno trailed off, Dream turned to look at him, seeing him turn red and hide his face in embarrassment before closing the door and leading him somewhere else.

The next place they entered was a smaller room, though still ornately decorated. "This is my private study. We'll spend time together here."

The king glanced at him from the doorway, clearly waiting for him to make a decision. Dream entered further into the room. "What exactly is the relationship between fae and humans? What are you expecting?" He asked as he took a seat on the couch.

Techno followed close behind and took a seat as well, though he almost automatically situated himself behind Dream with his legs on either side of him and brought him into a hug from behind. "Well fae rarely have any love for our own kind, and humans fill that void. The exact nature of the relationship varies between platonic and romantic, so just do whatever you're comfortable with." He exposited.

Dream could feel the warm expanse of Techno on his back and wrapping around him. It still sent tingles through him wherever they touched, but now it was accompanied with a feeling of love. He sunk into that feeling and relaxed into their position, slowly getting used to the fae's presence and contemplating his words.

As he turned his head to look at the king, he saw long eyelashes fluttered close as he rested on his shoulder, and felt whispers of stray hair ticking his cheek. Even at this awkward angle he was radiating ethereal beauty, and Dream suddenly realized that this man was his.

Bringing a hand up to gently move his perfect face, Dream closed his eyes and leaned in, bringing their lips together in a sweet kiss. Techno was surprised but kissed back. His lips strong but gentle against Dream's own. They tasted like godly nectar.

That's how they spent the rest of the day, Dream held close in Techno's arms while they shared slow, loving kisses.
