{AN:Do I have three separate fics I've worked on in the past 24 hours? Yes. Do I still have plans for Bittersweet, which I'm not working on? Also yes. Will any of these facts change in the near future? Absolutely not.}

Prince George was a princely prince, always kind and chivalrous, gentle and honest, the model son for the picture perfect royal family. As per custom, prince George was betrothed at age 8 to a childhood friend he loved spending time with, Dream. However, Dream, who was still 7, protested quite rudely. "Ew, George is my friend, I don't want to marry him, that's gross!"

The two sets of parents, at first taken in shock, giggled at the naive display, reassuring young Dream that, "One day you'll change your mind." and, "Adult things will be much more appealing as you age." Dream was not impressed by these statements, but what could he do? Spurn the engagement till his last breath, bringing chaos to the county? Or, perhaps, grow out of his stubborn ways and learn to love the prince's embrace?

//No, I don't want to!

Excuse me?

//I said I'm not marrying George! Not now, not ever!

How can you..? Whatever, I suppose it's a good way of establishing how stubborn you are, a further contrast to your later change of heart.

//I'm not changing my mind!

Well it certainly isn't an easy journey, that's what the plot is for, to give you reason to change. If everything was peachy for the next ten years I wouldn't doubt you.

//No! As long as I'm me, it's not happening, I'd rather die!

My, what a loaded statement, do you even know the gravity of death at this age?

//...Then prove it! Maybe I can see for myself how wrong I am!

That's how you want to play it? Okay then, five years passed without incident and the couple grew into charming youths and endeared themselves to the public.

//And I still don't want to marry him.

Correct, despite the surge of hormones, Dream remained adamant in his opinion. Nevertheless, the engagement was still in play, and the whole kingdom knewnDream as the future Royal Consort of the kingdom, future spouse of the noble prince.

//Blech.

This status granted Dream much adoration and respect, but also garnered jealousy. Many rival nobles longed for the prestige of royalty, certain that their own children were next in line for the prince's hand. Eventually one especially dubious character contracted a witch to get Dream out of the picture.

//Don't you dare just kill me off!

Of course not! This witch is smart, and plans to capture Dream so she can get continuous payments to ensure he stays locked up. And where to put him? Why in a high tower deep in the woods, sealed with magic that can only be undone if Dream is wed.

//Huh? Why would she do that?

Because if you marry someone other than the prince you're out of line for the throne anyway, so why not let you go so she can stop paying for your food. Plus she knows your reputation.

//This feels contrived...

Well like it or not, here you are, trapped in a tower with nothing to do. At first it seemed silly, Dream had a powerful family and the backing of royalty, he would be found in no time, and surely breaking a spell or two would be effortless for the court magicians. But then the weeks passed by, and Dream hadn't been found. The weeks turned into months and Dream still hadn't been found. As a year came and went it got harder to hold onto hope. The only thing he had left to find comfort in was his memories.
