Dream's first impression of his first college roommate was that he was cool. Like really cool, there were swords on the wall and trophies of all sorts and posters for bands that he couldn't even read. The man himself was tall, wide, and sported a heavy jacket and long dyed hair that fell in front of his face a lot of the time. Even his name, Techno, was cool. In comparison Dream felt even nerdier than he already knew he was. After he had gotten mostly unpacked and settled in, Techno, as the veteran college student, had started taking the lead in discussing general house rules while Dream listened obediently.
"I don't usually have people over, but feel free to have a party for all I care, as long as no one touches my stuff. I don't have a problem with weed, but the RAs here are bloodhounds, so I wouldn't recommend it. Lastly..." He took a pause to look at Dream, who could almost feel his eyes swirling at the overwhelming load of information. As the dark eyes looked through him, he suddenly felt self conscious of the green striped button up he was wearing. "Never mind, that's pretty much it. Let me know if anything comes up."
"Wait, no what's that last thing you were about to say?" Dream felt a shiver of annoyance run up his spine, he didn't like being judged.
A deep but short sigh interrupted the silence. "No getting past first base in here, I don't want my living space to smell like that." Dream froze in place, eyelids narrowed, like a deer stuck in headlights. "You really don't know what that means?" Techno almost seemed to laugh under his breath.
"Of course I know what it means!" He shouted as a tidal wave of blush threatened to topple him. "I love sex, I'm going to have so much of it, I just..." His voice went quiet almost as abruptly as it had increased. "I'm not, necessarily, familiar with, like... the specifics..." He trailed off into a blob of embarrassment.
This time Techno full on snorted, sending a wave of guttural laughter around the room. "I mean making out, kissing, mouth to mouth."
It was official, Dream was being teased. "Okay got it." He said quickly, ready to go to bed.
"Alright, I'll let you go. Good to meet you, I'm looking forward to the semester." If Dream had been watching, he would've seen Techno smile.
Contrary to the first day, their time in the dorm went pretty well. Techno wasn't home a lot of the day, leaving Dream to have the place to himself as he figured out his schedule and the dynamics of being in college. Outside of their room, Techno never bothered him, might not have even noticed him for all he knew. It wasn't until a nasty rainstorm struck and classes were cancelled for the day that they actually hung out again.
Still, for the most part they were just individually working on their laptops while the sounds of a light party raised through the floorboards. That was, until the lights shut off. They both glanced up at the ceiling, but it wasn't just the bulbs, their laptops were also no longer charging. The storm must have caused a power outage. Below them there were some panicked shouts, but Techno merely sighed and closed his laptop, then went to sit on his bed. Seeing the logic, Dream followed suit.
After a good bit of silence as the crowd downstairs calmed down, Dream spoke up. "It's like 3pm, I don't think we're going to get to sleep anytime soon."
"Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking." He sounded wistful.
"I would've thought you were the type to brave the weather and go outside anyway."
"Perhaps, but I just got my hair redyed. Standing in just mild rain would be a death sentence. I would've thought you were the type to go to the party downstairs."
"Yeah, I dunno, it's not as much fun as I thought it would be. A lot of stuff just makes me uncomfortable."
"Heh, I thought you wanted to have lots of sex." He chuckled.
