The first time they met on the mountain was because Techno was lost in the nether. Dream picked it at random because he didn't want to bother with a boat, and because he thought it would be dramatic. They had a short conversation, Dream gave Techno gifts, and that was it.
It was going to be it until two days later when Techno was wandering around looking for an exposed cave and came across the same mountain. Dream just happened to log back in when he was there. Their conversation was a little longer, since Dream didn't have a plan, just about what they were doing and how Techno liked the server.
The next time Dream had something to say, he remembered the mountain. It would be cool. So they met on the mountain again, Dream gave the information he planned to, and then they just chatted a bit, catching up before Tommy called for Techno.
The next time Techno wanted to talk to Dream, he remembered the mountain. No one had told him where Dream's house was, so he just left some signs on the peak and left. Dream almost didn't find them, but eventually did when he was wandering around for whatever reason. After that, the mountain was their spot.
Dream left a reply on the mountain, and Techno checked it. After a few more exchanges like that, they were both online at the same time. Dream only had to message the word, "mountain," and Techno was there. This time they chatted a lot more lively, talking about their friends and the antics they got up to and the close calls and funny stories. They hadn't talked much before then, but they acted like old friends. Dream gave the gifts he was already planning to give and they parted ways.
Each of them would occasionally look for notes on the mountain, and one day, they were both online again. This time, Dream had nothing prepared, so he just did his own thing until Techno messaged him first. Techno was sitting alone on the mountain when Dream arrived. Techno was upset. Things were messy in pogtopia, and it was taking a strain on him as his role was obscured. It wasn't one thing, just a bunch of little things that made him need to talk to someone. Dream was that someone, and as the good friend he is, he hugged Techno until the tears stopped falling. That day, they watched the sunrise together.
After that, Dream invited him to the mountain more, no gifts this time, just to chat. Techno was more shy, but never refused an invitation. He even brought some staircases to use as makeshift seats for them.
The next time Dream was upset, he just sat on the mountain, in his seat. Techno didn't even have to be asked to go to the mountain and sit next to him, offering awkward hand pats as Dream vented about his frustrations.
The next time they met up to chat,
Dream tried holding Techno's hand while they talked. Techno didn't refuse and now that too was part of their mountain visits.
Things were added to the mountain top, a few lanterns, a small road to the top, a potted fern on top of a diamond block for some reason, and both came to know of the place as sort of a home. They both had their secret bases where they kept their stuff, they both had their official places of residence. The mountaintop was neither. No one knew about it, it didn't have anything of value, but it was their closest guarded secret, only for the two of them.
It was a quiet evening when it happened. They had exhausted conversation topics and were sitting in comfortable silence, watching the sun set over the ocean below them as they held hands. Techno impulsively pulled Dream towards him a little and leaned over, giving him a peck on the lips. After a few awkward minutes of panicked discussion, they were dating.
No one knew. No one knew anything. When they would meet up in day to day life, in the community house or whatnot, it was like they barely knew each other. They prided themselves on the fact that even the most perceptive of their friends barely had a clue. But when they met on the mountaintop, everything was out in the open. Conversations about anything, emotional heart to hearts, blatant flirting, nothing was safe.
They turned their few chairs and a fern into a little house perched on the mountain, with a deck overlooking the sea. They spent evenings looking for decorating tips online, just so they could make this place their own.
As their relationship grew, the world around them deteriorated. Wars turned long and complicated, politics were complex and required diagrams, you never knew who was on your side, or who would attack next. The mountaintop became not only an escape, but a refuge from the world. One day, Techno couldn't take it. He put what he needed in his ender chest, then blew up his own secret base, with him inside. The many people who knew about his base at the time were shocked, even more so when he didn't respawn back at world spawn. His home bed wasn't the one in his base, or pogtopia. No one knew where he went. Except one. They had put a bed on the mountaintop when they decided to have an mlg water competition off the cliff, and just never bothered to remove it.
Dream was still involved in politics, though his role had long dissolved into a mysterious force that helps when he wanted too. Because of this, they spent a long time together in their house. They expanded a bit, making a cool basement, a cute dock, a mine entrance, all on their little mountain. Now that Techno didn't have any responsibilities, he became dedicated to gathering materials and food for their little house. Not powerful items, just fun ones. Unique blocks that would look good, little decorations, stuff like that.
One day, Dream saw a lookout party from the land that used to be his. They weren't looking for them, but they would find them. He warned Techno and they set to work on a wall. A thick wall made of Obsidian that would reach from clouds to bedrock. It covered only one side, they didn't want to lose their ocean view, but it was a statement. They finished before the scouting party saw them. The moment they finished, they hugged in relief and solemnity; Dream would never be heard of from the outside world again. Despite this, Dream was confident and hopeful, finally asking the question that would change their lives forever.
In a few weeks, they had an alter built, complete with empty chairs, a red carpet, and a priest villager they bred. They decorated the mountain with all the flowers they had collected and said their vows, a day of bliss amongst the storm on the other side of their wall.
Years later, the wars died down. People had long since gotten sick of fighting, and now their grudges and stubbornness had fizzled out too. As they salvaged what was left, the reality that there would be no more wars finally settling in, Wilbur's mind turned to his old friend Technoblade, who had disappeared. At the same time, George's mind turned to Dream, the man who had gotten stuck in the shadows he was so fond of. Looking through their old documents, both noticed the reports of a large wall in the woods next to an ocean, the only notable thing being it didn't belong to an enemy. Curious, both headed to the location and happened to see each other. Animosity long since gone, they traveled together to the wall. They boated around the edge and as they turned the corner, they were amazed. It was a little paradise, full of life and history, buildings and structures dotting a little mountain. They made their way up to the house at the center, finding in it two sleeping figures sat on the couch, laying on each other. Their old friends, Dream and Techno.
With Dream and Techno's help, both Wilbur and George soon made their own little houses on the waterfront, excited to share in the life they had preserved. Dream and Techno welcomed them with open arms, just glad to see their friends again.
A few days later, Tommy came too, then Sapnap. Soon, the whole server was all coming together to tear down the obsidian wall that had separated them until now. The server congregated on that mountain, the new center of life. The only downside was how much people teased them about the secret relationship.
