The cheers that followed the announcement of the street match, could not compare to the screams that erupted when the match began. Raquel and Rhea feasted on the energy, converting the noise into power. It was feral the moment the bell rang, it set the tone for the entire match. It was represented in the grunts, the wild stunts, the use of the props.
It was when the fortune had reversed, leaving Rhea tangled in the ropes, that set a fire under your skin. Raquel was relentless, taking full advantage of the panicked look on Rhea's face. When she escaped, chaos ensued and that wasn't enough for Raquel as she slammed Rhea through the time keepers barricade. The manic laugh that followed encouraged your pace, heading towards the closest entrance. While Raquel was distracted, boasting to the crowd about her success, you slipped over the barricade. Catching her by surprise with a push more loaded than any move you've delivered. Her head bounced off the mat, a confused grunt followed.
When Raquel looked back, her eyes grew wide in disbelief. Out of all people, she did not expect you. The type of wrestler that keeps their head down and their nose clean. She was astonished to see you, shaking with adrenaline and anger swimming in your pupils. She regained composure, turning to face her new opponent.
"You don't want to do this" she stated, her shoulders rolling back. Her height and strength was intimidating to those with rational thinking. However, you were fueled with adrenaline and an anger you couldn't quite place. Lips tweaked into an unsettling smile before you landed your second blow. Back and forth, the fight continued while Rhea recharged her strength. From where she laid, she could hear a set of voices, more than one body hitting the mat and the roaring cheers of the crowd. It encouraged her to pull herself up, leaning her weight on the barricade that was left.
She was stunned when she spotted you, flying high off the ropes, only for Raquel to catch you. She watched with baited breath as Raquel thew you across the ring, stomping towards you to land a lethal kick to your stomach. Baited breath turned into a sigh of relief when you rolled out of the way. When the momentum began to build, luck favoured you. Strong enough that you had managed to knock Raquel to her knees with a powerful knee slide. Once she was down, you moved fast to roll yourself out of the ring, heading straight for Rhea.
Rhea's eyes watched you closely, moving up and down your body as you advanced. They flashed with confusion, resistance, an odd sense of softness before settling with acceptance. When your arms outstretched, she stumbled towards your embrace. Strength wrapped around her waist, holding her steady, her body relaxing in your touch. When the weight was transferred, a content sigh escaped Rhea's lips. She moved with your guidance, one step at a time towards the ring.
In the ring, Raquel was using this time to recover, gather her thoughts and redirect her focus to her opponent. "Destroy her" were the words that Rhea needed to hear, it propelled her forward onto the apron. It gave her just enough momentum to deliver her finishing move, knocking the wind out of Raquel's lungs.
1 ... 2 ... 3
Screams erupted, the floor shook with vibrations and excitement. A dangerous smirk twitched against Rhea's lips as she raised her arm in victory. Raquel laid breathless, flat on the mat, seething at the loss. A soft smile graced your features as you watched Rhea claim her victory, in awe of her strength. She had felt your gaze, her eyes finding yours, her breath hitched at the sight. The look she received was deeper than any wound she had gathered. It conveyed all the emotions that Rhea couldn't name, refused to say out loud.
The charged energy followed Rhea to her locker room, sealed between the small confines as the door clicked shut. Between the two wrestlers, there was little room for anything else. You had sought comfort on the small lounge, Rhea lent on the closest bench. Her arms stretched behind her, securing her in place. Her eyes roamed your face, searching for an answer to her saviour. She was met with down cast eyes and stiffness to your movements. A soft sigh passed her lips, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Why did you do that?" She asked with a rare display of vulnerability, like it held the weight of the unspoken. With a shrug of your shoulders, you quickly deflected, responding with a quip that didn't quite provide an answer. "She smashed you through a barricade"
Rhea scoffed, arms flexing in disbelief. "That is the idea of a street match. Didn't think I could handle it?"
"Of course you can handle it"
"Then why interfere?"
Rhea's eyes narrowed, honing in on your composure. She witnessed a soft pink that spread along your neck and the way you twisted the rings on your fingers. "I couldn't stand the idea of her breaking you". The words gently wrapped around Rhea, her breath hitched at the confession. The gravity pulled her towards you, pushing herself off the bench. Her boots thudded against the floor, her knees softly bent as she placed herself in your eye line.
"And what if she had broken you?" Her hands reached for yours, encompassing you in warmth. Her thumb drew shapes along the back of your hand, coaxing the truth from you.
"Then it would have been a great distraction for her"
"No" she corrected, one of her hands moving to hold your chin, tilting your head. Her eyes searched yours, hoping that you could see the emotions that swirled within them. "It would have distracted me"
A whispered "why?" was your retort. Rhea was close enough to hear it, to catch your hitched breath that followed. A smile tugged at her lips, her heart beating against her ribcage.
"Because I would be worried about you" A beat past between the two, both trying to comprehend what was unleashed. Rhea was the first to move, leaning into your space. She waited, a silent invitation hung in the air. When you closed the gap, your lips brushing against her, it was all she needed. Her hands held your cheeks like she held the world. All her doubts melted as you set a rhythm, the tension in her shoulders washed away.
When you pulled back, a smile curved your lips with a light dusting of pink on your cheeks. The kiss was more than you had expected, more than what you thought Rhea would give. Rhea's rough edges began to smooth and it was all for you. Rhea rested her head against yours, her breath fanning your skin. "Thank you" she whispered, it encompassed more than just the distraction. It held the weight of all the words that were caught in her throat, the doubts that ran wild and the sudden urge to be close to you. Her body ached from the match, her mind spiralling with what could come next but she didn't care. Not truly, not when you were by her side.
