Is love a need, or a want?
If love is a need, therefore, when we love, we need that person.
Mahal Kita. Kailangan Kita sa buhay ko. Hindi ko kayang mawala ka. Kasi pag nawala ka, paano ako?
Paano ako? This question is selfish.
If you can live without that person, then it's okay for him or her to leave. You won't care. Because it won't affect you.
So, therefore, love is selfish.
Our love is selfish.
When you are in love, you are being selfish. Ayaw mong masasaktan siya kasi masasaktan ka. Everything about that person affects you. It involves you. You benefit from her. And you are like being punished of that person is also in pain.
Parang ginagamit mo lang rin ang taong Mahal mo.
Oo, totoong Mahal mo siya. Pero the truth is, love is selfish. Love is a need.
You need that person to satisfy your needs for belongingness. You need her to fill that emptiness in your heart. You need her affection to heal your broken heart.
We are all users. Even if we love a person.
This is the good yet bad side of humans. Isn't it interesting? The complexity and the duality of our nature?
