Jazmin's P.O.V.
I still can't get much out of him. It is starting to go back to him nodding and shrugging. No matter how hard I try not to make it obvious that I'm struggling, I fail miserably. I am really not good at making people feel better. I don't know why I would mean so much to him or anyone else since I'm not good for anything except causing problems.
"My pills are in the car." I tell Marley after I feel as normal as I think I will be able to feel for a while.
"I can get them for you." He gets up from the floor and begins to walk but stops, realizing he hasn't let go of my hand. "Sorry."
"I kind of want to go with James. I don't want to be alone." I stand up to follow him out. He leaves me alone in the front hall for a minute to ask James for the keys to his mom's car, giving me a chance to collect myself. "They're in the.. you know the little black bag? It should be on the backseat, I hope."
"Okay." He nods and walks out the front door.
I climb up the stairs as fast as I can, but even then it feels like I'm taking forever. I slow down when I get to the top. I hear the laughter from downstairs. Aimee is talking but I can't make out what she's saying. I snap my head in the direction of the laughter coming from a few feet away from Mason's room. I would go downstairs to be with the grown ups and Aimee, but I have already came this far. If it doesn't work out up here, then I'll go down there.
I knock on Mason's already open bedroom door. He tells me to walk in without turning around. He is focused on his tv screen, playing some fighting game that I can't remember the name of. James continues to push buttons and looks over at me for a second with a grin that means something is going to happen. Sure enough five seconds later, Mason is throwing his controller across the room.
"I don't think that was necessary, Mason." I walk over to where he threw the controller and kneel down to pick it up. I hand it to him and sit down on the floor next to James and watch as he switches characters. "Is this your plan for the entire day?"
"Pretty much." Mason mumbles.
"If he doesn't end up breaking the tv." James says making me laugh. "Want to kick his ass? It's easy." He tries to hand me the controller but I push it away.
"Maybe later. I have a head ache right now."
"Is Marley okay?" Mason asks. "He seems a little off."
"He is just confused right now." I begin to fidget with my hands. I didn't know what else to say. I don't really like talking about Marley behind his back. Whether it's good or bad things, it never feels right.
"Jaz, you have to take two of the small ones and one big one right?" Marley walks in with two spoons with crushed pills and a glass if water.
"Yeah, thank you." I take them quickly, not wanting the taste of them to linger on my tongue too long. "I don't even think they'll help." I whisper to myself.
"Just remember you're not crazy." James nudges me.
"Yeah sure." I roll my eyes. "Mason, can I lay on your bed? I feel light headed."
"Go ahead. Mom made me wash everything this morning so you won't get any Mason germs." He tilts his head back to show off his smirk to me.
"You're the one that made up Mason germs, remember?" I say to him and he keeps smiling and he begins to tell James how much he's missed me. I look over at Marley standing, staring at the ground. I call him and ask him to sit next to me. I hug him as soon as he does. "You look tired. Why were you up so early this morning?" I think he's surprised by how I laid down and pulled him with me. He stays sitting up half way. He slowly wraps his arm around me, tightly, and clears his throat.
