The next morning, the engine woke up, and smiled. They were all getting ready for the day.... except Gordon. "Gordon," said (Y/N), "Are you coming out?" "No," said Gordon, "And you can't make me." "Say, Thomas," said (Y/N), "doesn't the station need a new boiler?" "Yes," said Thomas cheekily, "I think Gordon can become the new boiler if he won't pull the express." Gordon then charged out of his shed, and to the station.
Gordon stood at the platform, waiting for his coaches. "Gordon," said (Y/N), "May I have a word with you please?" "Y-yes ma'am," said Gordon. "Now, Gordon, I know you're new to this railway, but you still have your friends here. I know loosing Sodor left a huge hole in your heart, but I don't think that if you lost your friends in the process, the hole would be even bigger than it is now." Gordon looked down shamefully at his buffers, thinking that (Y/N) had just bought them to show them off. He was happy that his friends managed to escape with him. He knew that he was very proud to have a family like them. "Thank you ma'am," said Gordon, "I will do my best." Just then, Percy came with Gordon's coaches. "Now Gordon," said (Y/N), "before you go, I gave some station masters red flags to show you where to stop on the line." "Will do," said Gordon. The guard's whistle blew, green flag flew and Gordon was off.
James and Emily came to the station with some coaches to the platform. He smiled brightly. "James," said (Y/N), "I want you to be on your best behavior today. No showing off, no sharp braking, and especially, NO complaints about your paint, please. Otherwise, I might make you black again." James then widened his eyes and said, "Yes ma'am, won't happen ma'am." He then headed off with the local.
Thomas, Percy and Toby puffed in. "Aw, the Fharquar Trio, that's what I called you guys. Anyway, I have a branch line that is in need of engines to work on it, and you three fit the bill." The three little engines cheered happily. They then puffed off, when Henry and Edward pulled in. "Hello Edward, I need you to take a goods train down to the other end of the main line. You won't mind shunting your own train, do you?" "No ma'am," said Edward, "It will be done." "And finally, Henry, I have a special job for you: I need you to take a non stop express from here to the end of the line. You will switch out with Gordon and James." "Yes ma'am," said Henry, "I will do my best!" "And Henry," said (Y/N), "Good luck to you. Have a good day." "Yes ma'am."
Gordon stopped at his first station, where the red flag was waved. He stopped, and waited. James came, and he was on the opposite platform. "Hello James," said Gordon, "I will admit, I had my doubts about this railway at first, but I'm starting to like it." "This railway is almost as splendid as me," said James, "Almost." Just then, Henry's whistle was heard, and Henry thundered through, saying, "NON-STOP EXPRESS COMING THROUGH!!!" He soon disappeared as soon as he appeared. "Did Henry just say 'Non-stop express coming through'?" asked James. "I think he did," said Gordon. Just then, the guard blew his whistle, and Gordon was off.
Thomas was at the junction waiting for Gordon. He then heard Henry's whistle, and saw him race through. "WOAH!" said Thomas. Five minutes after, he heard Gordon coming. "Gordon, is Henry pulling the express, and you the local today?" asked Thomas. "No Thomas," said Gordon, "Henry's pulling something called a 'Non-stop express'." "Well it has to stop at some point," said Thomas. "No Thomas," said Gordon, "A Non-Stop Express is an express train that runs along the main line, making only two stops, and no stops in between." "Wow," said Thomas, "Do you think that maybe you might pull it sometime?" "I don't know," said Gordon, "But (Y/N) does seem like the kind of controller who would let that happen if I asked." Gordon then set off, and followed Henry.
Gordon arrived at the end of the line, and saw Henry backing down on his train. "Henry, why are you pulling the Non-Stop Express?" asked Gordon crossly. Henry smiled, "You're going to be pulling the regular express more often." Gordon looked confused. "(Y/N) said that you, me and James will switch out every day. Tomorrow, you will take this express, and I can take the regular express." Gordon was pleased. "It's nice to know that I won't have to pull goods trains when I'm not needed on the express," he said proudly.
That night, the engines returned to the sheds, and they talked all about their day, when (Y/N) came in. "Well done on your first day," she said, "Now, just keep this up, and we might be able to expand on the railway." The engines were pleased. "Now, some days, I might be gone for weeks, but that's because I'm looking for engines who might meet their end, and rescue them. Soon, this shed will be full of engines from around the world." "That will be exotic," said Thomas. "What does ezotic mean?" asked Percy. "Exotic," said Henry, "It means very interesting and strange at the same time." The engines then went to sleep, and they thought about the Fat Controller, and how he was now with his mother, and pasted away friends. They smiled, knowing that he was in a better place.
