Winter had come early to Paradise Island, and all the roads were being blocked off by massive piles of snow. The engines had to work with extra loads of goods and passengers as the roads were being cleared by Jack and the Pack and the Can Do Crew. The engines were getting a bit annoyed by the constant add ons. One day, (Y/N) came into the sheds, and she had an announcement. "There has been a bit of debate over what to do with traffic until the snow melts. So, to help people, we will have a motorail service." "What's a motorail?" asked Duck. "It's a train that carries passengers and their cars along the rails. It will take people and their cars who need to drive to certain places." She then left. Mallard was not happy with the decision. "It's a silly thing, that's what it is!" he said, "Putting cars on a passenger train? Ridiculous!"

Henry was the first engine to take the motorail, and he actually enjoyed it. He soon found out it was a non-stop express service going from the docks, all the way to the end of the line. Soon, all the other big engines got a chance to pull it. They loved it, even Vinnie. But one engine still detested the idea of the motorail. Mallard was talking to Bertie about it at Jefferson's station. "You road vehicles can go anywhere you want! Why would you want to a ride on the rails?" Bertie then said, "If I remember correctly, sometimes engines are transported by roads on low-loaders." Mallard then said, "That's because they've broken down!!" Mallard then steamed out.

The next morning, his driver woke him up, and said, "Wake up Mallard, we're scheduled to take the motorail today." Mallard was speechless! He soon found his train at the docks, and crossly backed down on them. Soon, the yard manager came, and said, "Salty and Porter are busy right now. You'll have to shunt the flatbeds on the train yourself." Mallard was now LIVID!!! He grumbled the whole time, and he bashed the flatbeds to the coaches hard. Thomas was dropping off a load of stone from the quarry, and he said, "Mallard, are you okay? Are you still detesting the idea of a motorail?" "Yes!" said Mallard, "And I don't want to do this!!" Soon, the guard's whistle blew. No one knew what happened next. It may have been Mallard bumping the train too hard, or the worker forgot to couple them to the coaches. Either way, Mallard left the cars at the station. Thomas tried to tell him, but Mallard was in too much of a bad mood to listen.

Soon, the cool winter air flew around his face. He was soon feeling better pulling the train. He whistled cheerfully to the other engines as he passed them. Some stared as they saw that half the train was missing.

Mallard pulled into Sir Topham Hat Station, and looked at the clock. "Hello Mallard," said the station master, "You're early. Must be the light load." "What do you mean?" asked Mallard, "I'm carrying passengers and..." he stopped, to see no cars behind him. "OH NO!!" he said, "I MUST'VE LEFT THEM AT THE DOCKS!!" Soon, a whistle was heard, and Thomas, Porter and Salty all came into the station, with the cars. They carefully pushed them to the train, and they uncoupled like nothing happened. They then looked to Mallard. He tried to say something, but Thomas said, "Save it for (Y/N), I imagine she'll be very cross."

And she was. "Mallard! What were you thinking!?! Leaving the cars on the platform like that?!? What would've the passengers have thought of if their cars were missing?!" "Well," said Mallard, "The cars still made it to the station." "That's beside the point! You should've made sure the flatbeds were coupled before you left!" "Yes ma'am," said Mallard.

Mallard then pulled the motorail all the way into the summer season. The people liked it so much, that (Y/N) decided to make it a train for the summer holidays. The other engines were jealous. They wanted to take turns pulling the motorail. Mallard didn't complain, for he was more worried about how to redeem himself to (Y/N).

Soon, Mallard was taken off the motorail, and Gordon took the train, while Mallard took the express. Vinnie then said, "I know how you feel. I once left half of my train back at he start, and I had to go back for it in the states." Mallard was interested. So Vinnie told Mallard the story of what happened.
