Cranky was worked a bit hard at Connection Docks. He loaded and unloaded trains, and ship all day and night. He only got one break, and it didn't help much. The work load was getting a bit much for him. "Arr, we need another crane to help out," said Salty. "No we don't!" snapped Cranky. "Actually we may need another one," said (Y/N) pulling into the dock yards. "I may have a friend who might let us borrow two."
At the construction yards, the Can Do Crew and Jack and the Pack were resting after finishing the new airport. (Y/N) arrived, and said, "Hello machines." "Hello (Y/N)," said Betty coming out, "How can I help you?" "I was wondering if the docks could borrow Lofty and Kelly for a bit." "Oh, me," said Lofty, "Um, why?" "Well, Cranky is a bit over worked, and he needs help." "Wow Lofty," said Dizzy, "You and Kelly get to go all the way to the docks!" "It's really cool!" said Jack. "Lofty, Kelly," said Jeffery, "You'll have to go by road instead of rails." "Um, okay," said Lofty. "Yes Mr. Jeffery," said Kelly. "CAN THEY LOAD IT?" said Scoop. "YES THEY CAN!" cried the rest. "Um, yeah, I think so," said Lofty.
Lofty and Kelly headed down the road to the docks. The greeted the engines and vehicles that passed them. Soon, they arrived at the docks, and they were greeted by many engines and boats. "My," said Kelly, "it's very busy here." "Oh dear," said Lofty, "How are we gonna get all this done?" "Just do your work Lofty, you'll be fine," said Kelly.
They then rolled up to Salty, Porter and Cranky. "Ahoy there," said Salty, "You must be Kelly and Lofty. It's nice to meet you both." "Yes, we're here to help someone called Cranky," said Kelly. "I don't need any help!" boomed the crane. Lofty looked up, and he instantly shook in fear. "OH!" he said, "HE'S HUGE!!" "Don't worry Lofty," said Porter, "Cranky maybe big, but he can be friendly at times." "A-Alright," said Lofty, "What do we need to do?" "You can start by staying out of the way!" snapped Cranky, "I don't need any help!" Lofty looked down at the ground, and Salty said, "Pay no attention to that crane. You're still really useful." Lofty had to smile.
Soon, Lofty and Kelly were loading some crates, when Cranky said, "Leave those there! I'll take care of them!" Lofty stopped working, but Kelly kept going. "Ignore him Lofty," he said, "You just focus on getting your work done." Lofty then continued to load up trucks and lorries. Cranky was not pleased. So he made a plan.
When Lofty came by with a crate, Cranky was unloading some fruit, and he dropped the crate right on Lofty. Lofty was covered in smashed fruit. "LOOK OUT CLUMSY CRANE!" laughed Cranky. Lofty was hurt. He then started to cry a bit. Cranky laughed, until the dock manager said, "I have to speak with (Y/N) about this."
(Y/N) came, and she was not happy. "CRANKY!!" she yelled, "I'VE HEARD YOU'VE BEEN VERY RUDE TO KELLY AND LOFTY!!" "But ma'am, I'm just doing fine," said Cranky, "I don't need help!" "YES YOU DO!!! YOU'RE NOT AS YOUNG AS YOU USED TO BE!! YOU COULD ONE DAY STRAIN YOURSELF AND BREAK DOWN!! I BROUGHT KELLY AND LOFTY HERE TO HELP TAKE THE STRAIN OFF YOU!! YOU MUST LEARN TO GET ALONG WITH OTHERS!! FOR YOUR PUNISHMENT, YOU WILL BE TAKEN DOWN AND HELP BETTY, JEFFERY AND THEIR MACHINES WITH BUILDING PROJECTS!!" "But what about the docks!?!?" asked Cranky. "I HAVE ANOTHER CRANE ALREADY PURCHASED!! SO YOU CAN HELP WORK ON BUILDING SOME TOWERS!!!" Cranky then said, "THIS IS YOUR FAU...." "YOU HAVE NO ONE ELSE TO BLAME BUT YOURSELF CRANKY!!!" yelled (Y/N), "NOW, BETTY AND JEFFERY WILL BE WATCHING YOU, AND BE TELLING ME IF YOU HAVE ANY IMPROVEMENTS!! OTHERWISE, YOU'LL STAY DISMANTLED, AND LOCKED UP IN A SHED IF YOU DON'T CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE!!" "Yes ma'am," said Cranky sadly.
Cranky was soon put to work at the new skyscraper they were building. He was still blaming Lofty and Kelly for him being there. "Cranky," said Betty on the radio, "We need some girder brought up to the top, can you lift them please?" "Sure thing," said Cranky. Lofty was soon helping unload Muck, when Cranky said, "HEY, WATCH THIS BLUE BOY!!" And Cranky lifted the girders up so fast, they then fell off his platform. Everyone dodged, and the fell with a terrible crash!
(Y/N) came and had some stern words for Cranky. "YOU HAVE CAUSED CONFUSION AND DELAY!!" she yelled, "NOW, YOU'LL BE TAKEN DOWN, AND BE KEPT IN STORAGE UNTIL YOU CAN LEARN TO NOT BE SO CRANKY!!" Just then Lofty said, "Um, (Y/N), please don't do this." (Y/N) was surprised. "I know Cranky can be grumpy at times, but, that's just what makes him him. I'm not that brave, but that's what makes me Lofty. We all have a personality that makes us who we are. So, if you give Cranky another chance, he might redeem himself." (Y/N) smiled, "Very well Lofty, I will give Cranky another chance." Cranky was pleased. "Thank you Lofty," he said. "That's what friends are for!" said Lofty.
Soon, Cranky was lifting, and lowering supplies, and Lofty helped bring them to him. Dizzy mixed cement, and helped pour it in. Soon, the skyscraper was complete, and (Y/N) was impressed. "YOU HAVE DONE WELL CRANKY!! YOU MAY GO BACK DOWN TO THE DOCKS!!" "Thank you ma'am," said Cranky, "And thank you Lofty. If it wasn't for you, I would never have been given this chance!"
Cranky still works at Connection Docks. The new crane had helped Cranky quite some bit. He is happy to have help. He is still cranky at times, since he is that sort of crane, but he sometimes says a friendly hello to the engines and workmen. Especially when Lofty comes by to help out a bit. And Lofty is happy to call the big grumpy crane his friend.
