Diesel had been working hard at the quarry, and was very dusty. He saw James in line, and he wasn't even dirty. "JAMES!" said Diesel, "YOU'RE NOT EVEN DIRTY!! YOU'RE GONNA WASTE WATER!!" "A splendid engine like me needs to keep up appearance," he said, "Not like you, you dirty diesel!" Diesel frowned. When it was his turn, they were all out of water.

So Diesel had to do all his work dirty and dusty. Gordon then said, "I suppose it's fitting for a diesel like yourself to be dirty like this." Diesel snorted, and he rattled off.

At quarry, he shunted the trucks, but was looking a bit down. "What's wrong Diesel?" asked Mavis. "It's the big engines!" he said, "They are always looking down on the smaller engines!" Mavis smiled, "Ignore them, they just like to feel special."

Diesel tried to ignore them, but they just kept teasing him! When Diesel was finally being washed, he heard Spencer say, "You don't need to be washed. No one will tell the difference!" Diesel was furious!! He then sadly rolled into the station, and (Y/N) saw him sad. "What's wrong?" she asked. "The big engines keep teasing me of me being a dirty diesel," he said, and told (Y/N) what Gordon James and Spencer had said. (Y/N) thought for a minute. "Thank you Diesel. Tomorrow, I have a special job for you. Be sure to be cleaned the next morning, and be here at the platform a 8:00 sharp." "Yes ma'am," said Diesel, and he headed back to the sheds.

The next morning, he made sure to be washed down, and cleaned. He soon was spotless. He then headed off to the station, and there, waiting on Platform 1, was a line of gleaming coaches.

"Now Diesel," said (Y/N), "I want you to take this train on a tour, and then bring it back to the docks so the enthusiasts can catch their boat

"Now Diesel," said (Y/N), "I want you to take this train on a tour, and then bring it back to the docks so the enthusiasts can catch their boat." "Yes ma'am," said Diesel, "I'll get to it right away!" He was coupled up, and he happily rolled out of the station.

Gordon, James and Spencer looked at Diesel as he headed out of the station. "What's he with those coaches?" asked Gordon. "Indeed," said Spencer, "A diesel like him shouldn't be pulling those." "I agree," said James, "That's a job for a-" "Splendid engine?" asked (Y/N) appearing before the engines. They staggered, "Um, well.../ You see, we..../ What we meant was...." "Enough!" said (Y/N), "I've told you all this too many times, and you Gordon and James have been told enough by the Fat Controller: You're too stuck up in your own egos! If you don't start to appreciate the smaller engines, I will have you ALL placed on goods work, and goods work only! Understood?" "Yes ma'am," sulked the three big engines.
