Dick is the fastest engine on Paradise Island. He has gone a full 128 mph on average on the mainline. He often boasts about being the fastest engine on the railway, but the other engines grew tired of it.
Henry and Spencer pull the Non-Stop Express from Homestead all the way to Beach View Station. Henry takes it from Homestead, and Spencer takes it from Beach View. The other engines were jealous of them being the only engines to take it.
One day, the troublesome trucks had caused Henry and Spencer a deal of trouble. Now, Henry and Spencer had to go to the works. (Y/N) brought Alfred back to help with the train for the trip to Beach View, but she still needed an engine for the return trip. She decided to choose Mallard, seeing as he was the only engine that could rival Spencer in speed. Mallard was pleased.
Alfred was very happy to help, and even greeted Mallard with much kindness. "I'm glad you've changed," said Mallard, "you almost reminded me of myself when I was younger. I was rude and full of myself, until I derailed, and had to go to the works. Since then, I was much wiser." Alfred then said, "I'm sure it could've happened to any engine." Alfred then got ready to take a goods train, while Mallard coupled up to the train.
Soon, he was racing along the main line. When he reached a steep hill, he picked up speed. When he reached the top, he was very happy, until a snap was heard.
Mallard went faster, and faster, but he couldn't stop! "FIZZLING FIREBOXES!! I'VE BROKEN MY BRAKES!!" Mallard raced through each station, and blew his whistle to warn other engines. The station master phoned ahead, "CLEAR THE LINE, IT'S A RUNAWAY TRAIN!!!" Signals were changed, points were set. Mallard had never gone this fast in years! He raced past James. And flew by Gordon. And rocketed by Edward! AND HURRIED BY THOMAS!! Soon, Bertie saw Mallard coming towards the level crossing. "Want a race Mallard?" he asked, as Mallard raced through. "Um, never mind." No one had ever seen a steam engine go so fast, not even Dick. Mallard also had a speedometer coach attached for to help keep the speed limit. Inside, the crew were amazed. They saw Mallard go from 120 mph to 132 mph. Dick raced along the main line, saying, "I love being the fastest engine on the island." Soon, Mallard came by, but Dick didn't know he was coming. "HI DICK, BYE DICK!!" Dick couldn't believe his eyes!! Mallard soon over took him, and he raced through Jefferson's Station.
Soon, he started to slow down. The line to Homestead Station was slightly up hill, and so it helped engines come in at a fast pace slow down quicker. Mallard's driver shut off steam, and the guard pulled the emergency cable. The coaches then applied their brakes. Mallard then slowed to a halt, and he was red with exhaustion. (Y/N) came out to see what the noise was. (end video) "I might have known it was you Mallard," she said sternly. Just then, the crew came out, laughing and cheering. "WHAT ARE YOU SCOLDING HIM FOR!?!?" asked one, "HE JUST BROKE HIS BRAKES!!" "BESIDES," said another, "YOU SHOULD BE CONGRATULATING HIM!! HE BROKE HIS OWN RECORD!!" Mallard was confused. "SOMEWHERE FROM NEW WELLS WORTH TO JEFFERSON'S, HE HIT 132 MPH!!" Everyone was surprised. "I beat my own record!?!" exclaimed Mallard. "I'm sorry Mallard," said (Y/N), "I suppose I should be proud of you. You have broken your own speed record for fastest steam engine in the world!" Mallard was pleased. But he had to go to the works. One of his coupling rods got over heated and melted. He was loaded onto a goods train headed for Sir Topham Hat station, where the works is located.
When Mallard was repaired, he said to Dick, "Sorry for over taking you the other day!" "Oh," said Dick, "I didn't notice." "Oh," said Henry, "You didn't notice the fastest engine on the whole island?" "I can't believe that he broke his own record!" said Scotsman, "I'm still trying to break 100 mph again!" Percy felt bad for Dick. "It's not his fault," he said, "He didn't know Mallard broke his brakes." Dick then rattled away.
