Chapter 13: Spencer and Lady's new lives

Spencer and Lady had come to Paradise Island, and were proud members of the railway now. Spencer waited for his coaches, when Diesel 10 rolled up beside him with trucks full of debris. Spencer eyed him suspiciously. "I'm just trying to be really useful," said Diesel 10. Duck then arrived with the Pullman coaches. "Thank you," said Spencer. He then puffed off to the end of the line.

He was still getting used to his life as a public engine, after the weasel the duke and duchess of Boxford called an uncle, secretly sold him and replaced him with a diesel. Spencer had been a private engine for two whole generations before. Then he was thrown away like that. Soon, Spencer made it to Sir Topham Hat station, and he saw Emily with a goods train. Spencer had never really known what it was like to be a public engine. He was built mainly for the royals of Boxford. Now, here he was, pulling passenger trains.

Spencer was resting, when Diesel 10 came up again. "You seem down," said Diesel 10. Spencer then looked at him, and sighed, "I suppose I owe you an explanation."

Many years ago....

Spencer came out of the workshop, freshly made. He saw the prince of Boxford, and he said, "Hello, I am the Prince of Boxford, and you are my private engine, Spencer." "A private engine?" asked Spencer. "Yes, it means that you are our main transport, and no one else can ride your trains without our permission." Spencer was proud. 

After many years of serving the family, he was passed down to the Duke and Duchess of Boxford, but their uncle was not pleased. One night, he had Spencer towed out of the shed, and put up in a junk yard, with a sign saying, "For Scrap" on it. He then returned with a diesel, as a surprise for the Duke and Duchess. But to his surprise, the Duke and Duchess gave him a massive earful. They demanded to have Spencer brought back, but their uncle said Spencer had already been sold for scrap. The Duke and Duchess then smacked him senselessly then the Diesel was sold off, and they decided to use a private limo that they used the money on the diesel, and cut off all links to their uncle.

Spencer meanwhile, sat in his sighting for years. Soon, he was found by (Y/N), and she bought him from the yard, and took him to Paradise Island.

Present....

Spencer then shed a tear and said, "And that's how I got here." Diesel 10 was cross. "If I see that weasel, I'll give him a taste of Pinchy!" he said. Spencer's driver then said, "Spencer, we need to get to the station for the return trip.

Diesel 10 headed down to the junction, and he saw Lady frowning at her. "I know you hate me," said Diesel 10, "And you have every right to be, considering what I put you through." Lady was confused. Diesel 10 then told her the story of how he was sold off. Lady then said, "I was actually bullied a bit here when I first came to the branch." "Really?" asked Diesel 10. Lady then proceeded to tell her story.

2 weeks earlier....

Lady is the smallest engine on the Paradise Island railway, but she is also the hardest working engine. Thomas is proud to have her as a friend. Percy and Toby are jealous for her being the hardest worker and getting the most praise. "We've worked with Thomas longer!" said Percy. "I agree," said Toby, "We deserve some regintion too!" So, for the next few days, Percy and Toby ignored Lady, to the point she was hurt a bit. "What did I do?" asked Lady. 

One night, Thomas was heading back to the sheds. He saw that Lady had not come back yet. He thought that she had a late night job. Thomas then got worried that Lady hadn't returned that morning. He then set off, leaving all his jobs behind for Percy and Toby to do. The two engines then felt sorry for being rude to Lady. That night, Thomas didn't return to the shed. Now, everyone was worried about the engines. Percy and Toby headed up to the branch line, and they found Thomas talking to Lady, who was crying. Percy and Toby puffed up, but Thomas said, "STOP!!!" Percy and Toby then stopped. "You have hurt Lady's feelings by ignoring her for some time! She had been ignored by other engines when Burnett Stone had died, and she was left to rust for almost 7 decades!!" The green tank engine and brown tram engine now felt horrible. "Wait," said Lady, "Let them scold me. I just want them to say it and get it over with." To her surprise, Percy said, "We're sorry we ignored you." "We were jealous that Thomas had not been spending as much time with us," said Toby. Thomas then looked down at the rails. "I'm sorry too." Everyone was confused. "Lady told me her story right after the disturbance we made. I felt I needed to comfort her by giving her my attention, but I failed to realize I was not giving you guys the same attention I was giving her. I promise not to let you guys feel left out again." The engine then smiled, and they headed back to the shed.

Present....

Diesel 10 smiled. "I'm glad that you made amendments with them." "Diesel 10, I'm surprised that an experience like scrapping an engine would change you so much." "Just one small moment can change an engine." The engines then headed off to the sheds, talking of fun, and friends the whole way.
