The Narrow-Gauge Engines on Paradise Island are very happy to work there. Jacob had graduated from college, and managed to get the job of the controller of the Narrow-gauge Railway. The little engines like him. He reminds them a bit of the Thin Controller, Mr. Percival.

One day, Jacob had an announcement. "Today, a carnival is coming to Paradise Island. The engine will be coming here, and I want you all to help collect passengers to come to the event, and help bring stands." "Yes sir," said the engines. Sir Handel and Rusty went to collect the supplies for the booths. Mighty Mac and Luke headed off to get lights and the parts for the ferris wheel. Duncan and Rheneas collected excited passengers who wanted to play games at the carnival. Peter Sam headed off to collect animals for the petting zoo. But Skarloey was left with coal duty. I wish I could help with the carnival, he thought to himself. Soon, everyone was helping to get the carnival ready. Jack and the Pack and the Can Do Crew helped set up the roller coasters in the village, and the engines brought the needed supplies.

On his way back, Skarloey saw Rheneas in a sighting. "What happened?" asked Skarloey. "I got too excited," said Rheneas, "I was so excited to see all the children happy and laughing, I burst my safety valve. And I'm currently taking a group of passenger to the opening." Skarloey felt sad. He knew the children would be disappointed if they didn't get to the opening on time. "Why don't I take the children for you!" Rheneas smiled, "Thank you Skarloey, but hurry!" "I will," said Skarloey. He buffered up behind the break van, and pulled the coaches and Rheneas out of the sighting, and over the mountain. Percy, Toby, Bill, Ben, Mavis and Edman all saw Skarloey pushing Rheneas and his train. They cheered for him. "GO SKARLOEY!!" they cheered. Skarloey puffed as hard as he could. Farmers watching by cheered him on, even Spud and Travis.

Soon, Skarloey arrived just in time for the first opening. "Well done Skarloey," said Jacob, "You made it here just in time for the opening!" So, the children and their parents climbed off to the platform, and they thanked Skarloey, and headed to the gates. The sun set, the lights shown, and the carnival was opened! The children were soon laughing, playing games, riding roller coasters, and sliding down giant slides! Skarloey felt he had made most of this happen. If it hadn't been for him, most of the children wouldn't be here.
