The Engines of Paradise Island were having a good day. Summer had arrived, and visitors had come from far and wide. Everyone was happy, except Gordon, James, Mallard and Flying Scotsman. The four big engines thought that they were too important to be shunting. And when they tried to force their ideals on Penny, one of the new engines, they were punished with shunting trains for the other engines, and Scotsman, as a bonus for being the source of it all, was stuck shunting and pulling goods trains. Soon, Gordon and James had stopped complaining about shunting. So, (Y/N) relieved them of their punishment, and said that they could go back to pulling passengers. Much to Mallard and Flying Scotsman's annoyance. "What about us?!?" asked Mallard. "Can't we go back to pulling passenger trains!?!" put in Scotsman. "You two haven't been through all that they have been through," said (Y/N), "So you will continue to shunt, until the new engines arrive." Mallard and Scotsman hoped that the new engines arrived soon.
Flying Scotsman had just dropped off a train of pipes, when the crane was unloading what looked like new engines. What shocked him was that they were all Diesels.
"What are you all doing here!?!?" exclaimed Scotsman. "We're here to improve and take over the railway," said the big red Diesel. Diesel 10 then smacked him with his claw. "Quiet you!" he shouted, "WE'RE here to help out! Not to replace anyone!" Just then, (Y/N) walked in. "Welcome to the Paradise Railway," she said, "I want you all to go to Homestead Station, and get acquainted with the railway." The big red diesel sniffed, "Pah, I don't need to learn anything." "I had that exact attitude when I first came to Sodor," said Diesel, "But I soon learned that I had quite a number of things to learn. We maybe more modern, but the steam engines have much more experience than us Dick." Dick just let off smoke, "You're just a silly little shunting diesel," he said, "I am an important passenger diesel, who doesn't doddle." And he rattled away.
At Homestead Station, Dick was waiting impatiently for his coaches. "HURRY UP, HURRY UP!" he shouted, "The express mustn't be late!" Dick then saw Edman, the little diesel shunter, putting some coaches on platform 1. Dick was confused. "Why are they there?" "They are for the Non-stop express service," said Edman, "It leaves after the local does." "Rubbish!" said Dick, "If anything, the Non-Stop Express should leave first." So he took the coaches, and put them at his platform. Soon, the coaches were full of passengers, but they were all from the local. The guard blew the whistle, and Dick rolled away, just as the passengers for the express appeared.
Penny headed to the station, to find her coaches missing. "What happened to my coaches?" she asked. "I don't know," said Thomas, shunting some pull-men coaches, "the new diesel shunter, Edman put them there, and he said he heard a new diesel called Dick say that the Non-Stop Express should go first before the local should." "Oh no!" said Penny, "Dick must've taken the local passengers! Who will take the Non-Stop Express?" "Mallard is going to take them. Scotsman has the regular express, and the other big engines have local and goods work." Mallard was soon coupled up to his coaches, and he saw Penny backing down on a goods train. He then did something unexpected. "I'm sorry," he said, "I'm sorry we tried to make you despise shunting. It was very silly and rude of us. I speak on all of the engines who did it." Penny smiled, "It's alright. I know we all have our opinions, but it doesn't mean we can't be friends." Mallard then said, "Thank you Penny. I must be off now, the I'm taking the Non-Stop Express, and taking all the passengers to their stops that Dick missed. Everyone is late enough as it is already." Penny watched as Mallard headed off.
Mallard pulled into Sir Topham Hat station, where Dick was turned around, and was ready for the return trip. "Hello," said Dick, "I see you're looking at the future." He then saw that the people from Mallard's train, then came and they yelled at him. Dick was surprised. "BUZZ OFF," he yelled, and he nearly hit one of the passengers.
That night, he was scolded by the other engines. "Disgraceful!" said Gordon. "Disgusting!!" put in James. "Despicable!!" finished Henry. "Call yourself modern!?!" said Mallard, "Yet you took all the local passengers to the end of the line!!" Dick just said, "A one time mistake!" "It better be!" said (Y/N) as she entered the shed, "I put the Non-Stop Express after the local because most of the people who travel on it live farther away, so the buses take longer to get to the station!! I am very disappointed in you Dick! Considering that your controller said that you were the responsible one!!" Dick looked down at his buffers. "Now, you can get used to this as Den take your passenger trains, while you take his slow goods!" "B-B-B-But ma'am!" said Dick, "No buts!!" said (Y/N), "You must learn the timetables can't always be what you want them to be! I make the schedules, and you follow them! Is that clear!?!" "Yes ma'am," said Dick, and he looked down at his coupling.
For the rest of the month, Dick was stuck with goods work, and he was very cross. Den and Edman teased him, but surprisingly, Mallard stood up to him. Dick thought he had a friend, but Mallard just steamed off before he could thank him. Dick was not happy. But he soon learned about what all the engines had been through. (Start Video) But I will spoil the next story if I tell you.
