"Sir, are you sure about this?" Cynthia asks caught off guard. Cynthia is the intern. She'd only just been transferred to Michael's unit and already she has to take part in a mission.
Michael is Ben's real name by the way.
"Yes. The best way to test a team like mine is to put them straight into the frying pan." Michael replies leaning back into his office chair.
"But sir. Cain has zero combat experience, Able is a loose cannon, Reaper has the communication skill of a dead fish and you haven't been in the field in months."
"And you're just an intern." Michael adds with a chuckle.
"My point is we are not exactly fit for a high risk operation. Sir." Cynthia says with a sigh.
"Drop the Sir stuff. You're the only one in the squad who calls me that." Michael scoffs.
"I'm sorry sir but I will not allow you to change the subject." Cynthia says.
"Ok look. Let's make a deal. You stop calling me sir and I'll look for a less risky op. How does that sound?" Michael asks defeated.
"I can work with that." Cynthia agrees after taking a moment to think it through.
After a moment of silence the two start chatting about more trivial things such as assigning beds.
But, through everything Michael can't help being worried about his friend. And yes, he still considers Adam as a friend.
Adam, however, is just as uncomfortable.
His first day at this school has been going just as expected.
The schoolwork is significantly more difficult than he's used to and the students are avoiding him like the plague.
To make it worse, he can occasionally head them gossiping about his relationship with the girls. Apparently Cora is really popular among the students, for two reasons. She's amazing at her job, as school principal, and she's really attractive so the guys can't get enough of her.
Everyone had thought that she was into girls, seeing as not even the universally famous, or infamous for some people, David could win her over. But since that morning had happened everyone is talking about her.
"You look like someone who's been having a terrible day." Charlie says sitting down next to him.
Currently Adam is eating a sandwich on the stairs near the front gate. He's considering making a break for it.
"Oh no, my day's been absolutely awesome." he replies with a hint of sarcasm.
"Sorry I asked." Charlie say with a chuckle.
"By now you've probably heard. It seems you're the talk of the town." she says laying her head on his shoulder.
"I've heard. I can't say it's a nice feeling." he replies placing his arm around her.
"Yeah. It feels like you broke some taboo or something. Although I think people are just being salty because you managed to snag Cora before they could." she says.
"I snagged more than just Cora." he comments as he feels her warmth seep into him.
"Can I ask you a question?" he asks sounding worried.
"You just did." she replies. He can't see her face but he feels like she's smirking.
"Fair enough." he comments.
"So, what do you wanna ask?" she asks when he doesn't say anything else.
"I've been wondering. I'm not exactly the best person alive, and I'm sure it must be awkward being around me since I'm, you know, a completely different species. So, what have I done to deserve any of you?" he asks from the bottom of his heart.
When Charlie doesn't say anything for a while he accepts that she doesn't have an answer.
But then she suddenly jumps up and places her arms around him in a tight embrace.
"I don't know about the other girls, but to me you were exactly who I've been looking for. My uncle has told me so much about you and like a kid who fell in love with a fairy tale prince I fell in love with you. And when we me, you were just as he had described. So stop worrying wether you deserve us or not and just accept us." Charlie says squeezing him tightly.
Adam has no idea what to say, until he see half the school staring at them.
"Uhm, Charlie. Half the school is looking at us." he says feeling very embarrassed.
Suddenly she takes his face in both hands and gives him a deep kiss.
The only reason they break the kiss is because they require oxygen to survive.
"I don't care." she replies after catching her breath.
Sadly the moment is ruined by the terror inducing sound of a school bell.
With renewed vigor Adam walks to his class. After taking Charlie to her's of course.
The rest of the day is a lot more bearable as the gossip becomes insignificant. Like water off a duck's back.
Everything was fine. Until after school as he was making his way to the front gate where his family was waiting. His new family.
That was when he ran into a group of boys. He counted four of them, and by the looks of them they were athletes.
"Can I help you gentlemen?" he asks, trying not to cause things to escalate.
"You could say that." the large bear in the middle says.
Adam quickly realises that he's trying to seem like the leader. But he's just a stand-in.
The other guys, a tiger and three jackals who he assumes are brothers, gave that away.
Normally when someone looks at a leader, especially if there's a fight or a possible fight, they will look at there leader constantly. And in there eyes will either be fear or respect depending on the kind of leader they have.
These guys kept looking above and behind Adam, with fear in their eyes. That means the actual leader is behind him.
Adam casually turns around and looks up to see David starring at him through a window.
"Listen, the others are waiting for me and I'd really hate to keep them waiting!" Adam says loud enough for David to hear him clearly.
David looks surprised at Adam's reaction to the situation.
Still ignoring the thugs Adam waits for David to reply.
"Then you better deal with them quickly." David replies nodding at the guys behind Adam.
With a sigh Adam turns back to look the bear in the eye since he's clearly the most dangerous in the group.
The next moment Adam rushes forward. Before they can react Adam uses the bear as a platform to launch himself over them.
By the time they turn around he's gone.
"What happened to you?" Yang asks when he reaches them.
"I'll explain on the way." he replies skidding to a halt next to her.
As they walk home he tells them what happened.
He had a feeling David wasn't done with him just quite yet.
