Yang POV
"I take it you said what you needed to say?" Cora asks as I step up to the door of the mansion.
I'm thankful she waited for Adam to go inside before saying something.
"I did." I reply sitting down next to her on the steps.
"If you sorted things out, then why do you look like their's something on your mind?" she asks.
I decide it'd be for the best if I told her what happened.
"I broke down and started crying." I say hiding my embarrassment with a smirk.
"Let me guess. He held you tight and cried with you." she comments with a snort.
"What!? What makes you say that?!" I ask now unable to hide my embarrassment.
"Because it's something he would do." she replies basically laughing in my face.
"Oh." I say covering my face with my hands.
"You know if you're looking to claim him you have a lot of competition." she says, a sly grin forming on her lips.
"Why would I want to claim him? We only just met!" I exclaim shocked.
"So you don't want to claim him? That makes things easier for the rest of us." she says.
For a moment I'm relieved that she dropped the conversation until I realise what that last word was.
"Us?!" I ask, my voice a tad bit too loud.
"Yes, I said us. What's the problem? Am I not allowed to go after younger guys?" she replies, smirking at me.
"Why him though?" I ask, genuinely curious.
I see her expression soften as she contemplates her answer.
"It's hard to describe exactly. I guess the short version will have to suffice. Basically every time I look at him my heart yearns with a desire to protect him against any and all harm." she explains, putting her hand over her heart.
"I don't feel that way." I say twiddling my thumbs.
I notice her look up at me, confused.
"I don't want to protect him. I want him to hold me and keep ME safe." I say turning to her and smiling shyly.
For a moment she seems confused, but then she nods in understanding.
We then sit together in silence as we watch the stars.
Adam POV
"This place is huge." I say after stepping through the door.
"Of course. This house was specifically built for Lady Cora." someone whispers in my ear causing me to jump.
I quickly spin around to see a female cat Anima giggling at my expense.
"Seriously Irina? You know I spook easily!" I scold my old friend.
Irina is Cora's personal maid. In Anima society there exist entire families dedicated to serving the wealthy. Not only are they compensated quite handsomely, but it is an honour to serve a family as recognised as the Draco family.
"I'm sorry, but you know I can't help myself." she says still laughing.
"You're enjoying this aren't you?" I accuse, to which she nods furiously and replies, "Immensely."
Irina was actually one of the fifteen backup units the night I was rescued so I really enjoy seeing her.
"How've you been?" I ask, smiling at her.
"I've been well. You on the other hand, I won't even ask because you've clearly been doing well." she replies suddenly folding herself around me from behind.
"What makes you say that?" I ask feeling myself sink into her embrace.
"It would seem you've been collecting possible wives." she whispers into my ear causing me to shiver.
"It's not like that. You know I won't enter into a relationship." I reply with a chuckle.
"I just wish you would tell me why." she says before nibbling my ear.
"I have my reasons." I say.
Then she suddenly let's go of me.
"Your no fun." she says puffing up her cheeks.
I then remember that Jessie had been abnormally quite this last while.
"Have you seen Jessie?" I ask Irina.
"She's in room four." she replies pointing at the stairs.
"Thanks." I say before jogging up the stairs. Once upstairs it doesn't take me too long to find room number four.
"Jessie?" I ask knocking.
"Come in." I hear her say. It sounds as if she'd been crying.
I slowly open the door and step inside and find Jessie sitting on her bed hugging her knees.
"You ok?" I ask sitting down next to her.
"No I'm not. Dad told me how Mum died." she replies.
"I thought she died of a disease." I say afraid of where this conversation is going.
"So did I. It turns out she was murdered. The fucking DISEASE was man made and injected by hand." she explains.
I only then notice that she's shaking.
"Who did it?" I ask already knowing the answer.
"Fucking Eden. That bitch didn't even have the guts to do it herself. She sent one of her thugs to inject the virus." she hisses.
I'm about to brace myself for a barrage of swearing when I hear her softly weeping.
I get up to leave her in peace but she pulls on my shirt.
"Don't go. Please." she whispers.
I smile tenderly at her before I sit down. I want to cry with her since I was also close to her mother but I can tell that she needs me to be strong right now.
I gently pull her closer letting her cry into my shoulder.
As she weeps I think about everything Eden has taken.
I remember Jessie's Mom. She was probably the kindest woman I had ever known. She saved my life that night by patching up my many wounds. And how did she die? Lilith sent a thug to poison her.
I remember Charlie's parents too. Her mom was a friendly woman. Tough but friendly. Although Eden wasn't directly involved in her death they still turned her into the drunk that she was when the accident happened. And then they shoot Charlie's father.
To make it worse Stella's mom was killed saving me.
And then there's Yang's parents, both killed by Eden.
Not only did they take from my friends but they also took from me and my family.
She killed him. Lilith killed Able.
I swear I will destroy Eden even if it costs me my life!
I suddenly come back to reality and notice that Jessie had fallen asleep.
I smile down at her remembering to one thing more important than my revenge.
I have to do everything in my power to make sure my friends are safe and happy.
But how can I do that when I can't even give them the relationship they want with me.
Yeah, I've noticed how the look at me. I was surprised by Yang though, I had honestly thought she would keep hating me.
Carefully I move Jessie to a more comfortable spot before covering her with a blanket. As quietly as possible I leave the room. I needed to find Cora to discuss something.
Luckily for me I find her sitting on the porch with Yang.
"Hey you two." I greet them.
"Hey." they greet back with smiles that squeeze my heart.
"Can I talk to you about something?" I ask looking at Cora.
"So you've finally decided to take my advice." she says when she sees the look in my eyes.
"Only if you can guarantee it won't cause more pain." I say seriously.
"I'll speak to the others and let you know. For now you need to make sure you're late for breakfast tomorrow." she replies with a sigh.
"How late?" I ask.
"So late you won't be there to enjoy it with us." she says.
I nod.
I'm not sure whether this is the right thing to do but I have to try. I have to protect their smiles.
