Adam's POV

"Get up, Adam!" the small wolf cub says while jumping up and down on my chest.

With a groan, I greet him, "Good morning, Pete."

When Pete doesn't stop jumping, I grab his hood and like a crane, I move him to the side of my bed and drop him. With a PLOP, he deftly lands on his feet.

"Mom says that if you don't hurry and come eat your breakfast she's gonna give it to Mira," Pete says while poking my face.

As realization hits me, my eyes fling open, and I rush downstairs.

I'm just in time to stop Mira from sticking her fork into my fried egg.

"Stop right there!" I say, jumping over the last three stairs.

"Works every time," Mira says, giving me a sly smirk.

But alas, she resumes eating my breakfast.

To me, it feels as if something has died within my soul.

"Oh, stop looking as if someone shot you. I put your breakfast in the microwave," a mature grey wolf says while washing the morning dishes.

"Thanks, Mom," I say, life returning to my dying body.

Quick Pause.

You see, Adam is officially the last human on earth. Luckily, when he was a baby, the police chief of the city he lives in adopted him. Thus, he was raised by wolves.

The pup from earlier is Peter. Peter is seven. Because he is still a pup, his fur is quite fluffy, his fur is also a dark grey color, and he likes Spider-Ham.

Mira is one of his older sisters. She is a sixteen-year-old grey wolf, although her fur is closer to white than grey.

And the other one is their mother, Rebecca. She is currently six months pregnant with her eighth child.

I know if I had that many kids, I'd probably cry myself to sleep every night.

Good thing I'm single hahahahaha *sob*. Anyway, resume.

"Where's Seth?" I ask before taking my breakfast out of the microwave.

"Oh, he already left," Mira says, rolling her eyes.

"He probably just doesn't wanna be late for school," I comment, putting my plate down on the table next to her.

"Yeah, maybe you're right," Mira agrees, rather unconvincingly.

As I start eating my breakfast, I can't help but think about Seth.

Seth is Mira's older twin and easily the person who hates me the most.

The sad thing is it wasn't always that way. In kindergarten, we were really close, as in best friends close, but after that, he's just been drifting further away and now, even though he hasn't said it, he hates me. It just seems that whenever he looks at me, his gaze is filled with hatred.

"Where are the others?" I ask.

"It's Eve's first day in High school, so John decided to walk with her, and since Ruth's school is on the way, she tagged along," Mira says, glancing away from me.

"Liar. You just asked them to leave early so you could walk with Adam," Pete says, hopping down the last few stairs.

"Yeah and?! There are a few things I wanna discuss with him before we get to school," Mira retorts, lifting her fork as if it were a throwing knife.

"Enough bickering. Isn't it time you get ready for school?" Mom says, looking at both Mira and Pete in turn.

With a grumble, Pete goes upstairs to finish up and is followed by Mira soon after.

"I should finish up too," I say, swallowing my last bite.

"Oh Adam, before you go," Mom says as I'm about to leave.

"Yeah?" I ask, turning around.

"I know school isn't easy for you, and I really hate to lay this on you, but could you maybe look after Eve for me?" she asks, looking me dead in the eye.

With a smile, I reply, "Of course. I am her big brother after all."

With a smile of her own, Mom nods.

When I'm done getting ready, I head downstairs and find Mira by the front door.

When I see her, I can't help but freeze and stare. Her eyes are shut as she enjoys the morning light cascading into the house through the open door. Her mouth is slightly open, so I can see her pearly white teeth almost reflecting the sunlight. Her fangs seem a mystical combination of elegant and lethal.

Almost of their own volition, my eyes drift down to her neck and then even lower to her breasts, which although don't seem exceptionally large, are still making their presence known underneath her white blouse. Even lower, I see her grey skirt fold around her slim waist.

I want to see... more...

Realizing my own thoughts, I quickly shake my head and continue walking.

Only then does Mira notice me.

"I'm glad you're finally done," Mira says, stepping through the door.

"We're leaving now Mom! Bye!" Mira shouts back. Turning to close the door, I see Mom standing in the hallway waving goodbye. I realize that from where she's standing she could have easily seen me earlier. Her face, however, doesn't give any clues.

Oh god, I hope she didn't see me.

On our way to school, I try and fail to not overthink it.

Luckily, Mira saves me from my own mind.

"How are things with you?" she asks, looking at me, her beautiful green eyes filled with worry.

"What do you mean?" I ask, trying to avoid the question.

"I know you're not exactly loved at school, and I wanted to know if things are still going ok," she replies.

"As ok as they can be, I suppose," I say. I then turn the conversation to other things. More pleasant things.

Another Pause.

You should all know that Adam is in a bit of a strange position at school. Most of the students are afraid of him, and thus they avoid him as best they can. Other students look down on him because as a human, he is significantly less powerful than them. They bully him in decidedly uncreative ways. A minority, however, actually hate him and are actively and secretly doing their best to make life miserable for him. They do this by turning the teachers against him or acting behind the scenes to manipulate others into making his life difficult.

No one has ever actually laid a finger on him though, as his guardian is the police chief.

I say guardian and not father because Adam was never adopted as a legal member of their family, but he does treat them as his family and, with the exception of Seth, they treat him as theirs. Also, the remaining tiny percentage of students are neutral towards him. Barely any like him.

Resume.

At school, Mira and I head to our own classes where we will gather before the opening ceremony.
