Med Bay

Walking without making any noise, Ben has his gun at the ready. He's currently in the enemy's med bay, although it's oddly empty. This gives it an eerie, spooky vibe.

"Lady Lilith thought you'd send someone here. I'm happy it was you." An all too familiar voice echoes through the room.

Ben immediately spins around to confront the source. In front of him, sitting nonchalantly on one of the beds is a squirrel with a sadistic smile.

"Cain!" Ben hisses.

"Oh? You seem angry at me." Cain comments, feigning disappointment.

"Not angry. Regretful." Ben replies.

"And why is that?" Cain asks, seemingly curious.

"I should have never recruited you." Ben explains. He still hasn't lowered his weapon.

"Really? Do you perhaps blame yourself for me being a sadistic little shit? Hahahaha!" Cain says.

"No. You were like this long before we met. I blame myself for the death of your brother. I encouraged you to kill him. And you did so. In the most painful manner you knew how." Ben explains, his voice trembling.

"And did I ever enjoy it!" Cain responds.

"Oh man. I hated my life. I was forced to be the perfect son while my brother could do as he pleased. I craved release. And you gave it to me. Now I can kill and hurt as much as I want without any repercussions. It's honestly refreshing. I even celebrated you becoming a good guy by drinking the blood of an infant. And it was delicious." Cain rants while giggling.

"What nothing to say?" Cain asks.

"No. I made a mistake when I recruited you. Now all I have to do is fix my mistake." Ben says, aiming at Cain's head.

"Put that down. I want to have fun while killing you." Cain scoffs, holding the handle of a knife towards Ben.

"I'd rather just shoot you." Ben says.

But just as he's about to pull the trigger Cain jumps forward and kicks the gun out of Ben's hands.

"I've improved while you were away. Now, let me kill you my way please." Cain says, dropping the same knife in front of Ben.

"Well shit." Ben comments, picking up the knife and entering a combat stance.

Cain pulls out a knife of his own.

After taking a deep breath Ben lunges at Cain, his knife aimed for the squirrel's stomach.

But Cain manages to avoid the slash by jumping back. He then counters with a slash of his own that Ben is able to avoid by ducking his head. Although a trickle of blood runs down his face from the cut under his eye.

Ben then jumps forward, tackling Cain to the ground. But, Cain uses the momentum to keep them moving. While he does this he swings his own knife.

Ben yelps in pain as Cain's blade sticks into his leg.

Cain uses this opportunity to push Ben off of him and get up.

Using his one hand to cover the wound Ben struggles to his feet.

"Time to die!" Cain shouts, lunging at Ben.

All of a sudden a loud POP is heard throughout out the room.

In his free hand, Ben is holding an M9 Beretta. He's holding it at hip height so you wouldn't immediately see it unless you were already looking at his hand.

"Cheater." Cain mumbles before falling forward, onto his face.

"All's fair in love and war." Ben says as he puts three more rounds into Cain's skull.

While he waits for reinforcements to arrive Ben uses the surrounding medical gear to take care of his wounds. He then looks for information on why this place is empty. He doesn't have to look for long.

"What?" He whispers as he reads through Cain's PDA.

"Cora! We got a problem!" He shouts into his ear piece.

"What is it?" She asks, sounding distressed.

"The enemy forces we're fighting now are a decoy. They're here to make this place look important. They're even killing their wounded. The majority of Eden's forces are scattered around the globe. This city and multiple other locations are rigged to release some kind of bio weapon the moment her heart stops beating." Ben explains.

"What locations?" Cora asks, almost panicking.

"I don't know. All I can gather is that it's not reserved for large cities. It looks like the targets were chosen at random. And from what I can tell they're gonna be hit with smaller doses of what she's planning on putting into the atmosphere." Ben says.

"Is there any way to stop it?" Cora asks.

"No. I managed to get back into their systems and I can't find anything. If she dies the big machine stops but the little ones blow. If she lives the big one activates and the little ones are unnecessary." Ben responds.

A moment of silence goes by.

"I see. Either way innocents die. And there's no time to evacuate either. Fuck." Cora says. The light on Ben's wrist device let's him know they've been on a private channel ever since he called her.

"We save the majority. I'll let world leaders know about the bombs. Either way we go on. I'd rather lose a few thousand than a few million. So send me that list." Cora says.

"If this gets out, you'll be hated by everyone." Ben comments.

"I know. Which is why it's not getting out. Although I'll have to tell Adam and the others." She replies.

"Do you think he'll hate me for it." She asks him.

"No. He'll continue to love you." Ben responds.

"Thanks. For now, I need you to link up with Adam. Bring that bitch down." Cora orders.

"Yes ma'am." Ben replies, picking up his weapon.

He knew that what they were about to do wouldn't be considered heroic. People would definitely question their morality if anyone found out.

But he also knew that super heroes were fiction. In the real world sacrifices were made daily.

And he would always sacrifice the minority to save the majority.
