The Blood That Runs In Our Veins

Adam and the girls were busy watching a movie in the living room when they suddenly heard a knock on the door.
"I'll get it." Adam says jumping up and out of Irina's arms.
At the door a surprise greets him.
It's a young fox girl. But this one's not an average fox. Her fur is all white with red stripes around her black and gold eyes. The stripes seem to go up her brow and down her cheeks, even following her neck until they disappear beneath her blouse.
"Good evening. Is Sakura Kurogane here?" the young fox asks her voice almost enchanting Adam.
"Y-yes." he replies.
"Uhm, Sakura! There's a kitsune here to see you!" he calls out turning to look in the direction of the living room.
Almost instantaneously Sakura is past him. With a tight hug she and the kitsune embrace each other.
Not wanting to intrude Adam turns to leave.
Sakura however pulls him back into the conversation and into her arms.
"Ichika, this is my boyfriend Adam. Adam this is my cousin Ichika." Sakura introduces the two of them.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you." Adam says remembering the fondness Sakura had in her voice whenever she spoke of her cousin.
"Likewise. Sakura has told me a lot about you." Ichika replies.
"I hope she didn't say anything too embarassing." Adam comments already feeling embarrassed.
"Don't worry. She only spoke good things." Ichika says settings his mind at ease.
"Would you like to come in for some tea?" Sakura asks letting go of Adam.
"I would be happy to." Ichika replies.
Adam quickly steps out of the way so that they can pass.
As he's about to follow them to the kitchen he hears Jessie in the hallway talking to someone.
With overwhelming curiousity he goes to find out who it is.
To his surprise she puts her phone away just as he reaches her.
Then she turns and with a loud "Fuck!" makes it obvious she was startled.
"Sorry. I heard you talking to someone and I got curious." Adam apologizes.
"Could've at least bloody warned me. You know I hate being startled." she says throwing a punch that almost breaks his arm.
"Was that Jacob?" Adam asks rubbing his arm.
"Yeah. He wanted to know how I was doing. Which is ridiculous since it hasn't even been a week since we last saw each other." Jessie replies looking dejected.
"You miss him don't you?" Adam asks, leaning on the wall.
"I do. I just wish he'd have come with us." she replies making herself comfortable on the wall next to him.
"He probably chose to stay so that the farm will be in good condition for when you and your Dad go home. And besides, the guards Cora assigned to him are some of the best money can buy." Adam comments, placing his arm around her.
Snuggling in close she responds, "Still. I can't help but worry."
"Of course you worry. He's your brother. Hell, I'm worried about my Dad as we speak." Adam says squeezing her shoulders.
"They still haven't contacted you?" Jessie asks, looking up at him confused.
"No. But I'm sure they will soon." Adam replies remembering the call Francoise had given him earlier.
He'd decided not to tell the girls what they had discussed as it could lead to unwanted tension.
"Anyway, I should get going. I promised Cora I'd help her sort the files for last year's exams. After the movie of course." Jessie says before leaving.
On his way to the kitchen, Adam wondered whether it was wrong to keep secrets from the girls.
In the kitchen however is a completely different mood.
Sakura looks certifiably pissed and Ichika looks  like a child who broke a window.
"So what happened in here?" Adam asks, taking a seat next to Sakura.
All of a sudden Sakura stands up and storms off.
"Did I do something wrong?" Adam asks turning to Ichika.
"No. Our grandmother has once again interfered in her life." Ichika replies.
"How so." Adam asks.
"Tell me, are you aware that you can't lie to a kitsune?" Ichika asks.
"I am. Kitsune can sense the emotions of others and because of that it's impossible to lie to them." Adam replies with a nod.
"Right. And my kitsune intuition tells me that you love Sakura deeply. And that because of that love you are hiding something from her." Ichika comments.
When Adam doesn't respond she goes on, "Let's make a deal. I'll tell you our secret if you tell me yours. That way I can know if your secret will hurt her or not."
"Sounds fair.' Adam agrees.
"Good. Our secret is that our grandmother has arranged marriages for the both of us. Mine being into a more prestigious family than hers." Ichika explains.
"Can she do that?" Adam asks shocked.
"Yes she can. You see my family, the Amaterasu family, owns one of the largest companies on the planet. In the old world they used to call it Microsoft. Now they call it Amaterasu Technologies." Ichika goes on.
"Because of that my grandmother, being at the head of the family, has a lot of power. And if either of us were to refuse she'd truly ruin every chance we have at a future." she says finishing her cup of coffee.
"I can tell that you're enraged." Ichika comments after some silence.
That's when Adam suddenly realises something.
"But don't kitsune usually only marry other kitsune? Sakura is just a normal fox." he asks.
"I'm afraid she's not a normal fox. You'll have to talk to her about that. In any case, I believe it's time for you to tell me your secret." Ichika replies.
"Yeah, ok." Adam says. After some hesitation he tells her his secret.
"I've been genetically modified." he says, almost whispering.
"Who told you this?" Ichika asks looking shocked.
"My uncle called me this afternoon. Then he sent me a bunch of files from some old genetics company. Turns out my real name is Subject 4-DM." Adam explains.
"I'd imagine that this isn't something you tell someone over the phone." Ichika comments.
"That's what my dad also thought. But my uncle felt I had a right to know." Adam replies leaning back on the chair's hind legs.
"I feel like that's not all there is to this story." Ichika says after giving everything some thought.
"It's not. They may have found another lab like the one I was born in. But unfortunately, in order to continue the investigation they need human DNA. Something about advanced security systems." he explains as best he can.
"So, that means you may have to leave soon." she says.
"And for an unspecified amount of time." Adam adds.
"I understand why you might be hesitant to break the news to Sakura. But unfortunately you will have to tell her eventually." Ichika says looking him dead in the eye.
"And not just Sakura. I'm gonna have to tell all the girls." Adam sighs, worried about how they might react.
"Which leads me to my next question. What exactly is your relationship with the many girls you share a dorm with?" Ichika asks, hearing the girls leave the living room now that the movie is finished.
"Currently, I'm dating most of them. Stella, the spotted leopard, is the only one here who I'm not in a relationship with." Adam explains standing up and taking her tea cup to the sink where he rinses it.
"I see. And you would do anything to protect them?" Ichika asks, looking thoughtful.
"Of course. I'd do anything to protect those important to me. That includes their family members." Adam replies nodding in the direction the girls can be heard from.
"I will keep that in mind." Ichika comments standing up from her chair.
Adam goes with her to the door where he wishes her a good night before she returns to her own dorm. He was gonna walk her there but she had a limo waiting for her.
Once she's gone he goes up to Sakura's room.
He hesitates a moment before knocking.
"I'm coming in." he says opening the door.
On the far side of the room he finds Sakura sitting on the edge of her bed holding her stomach. She also only wearing her underwear.
"You ok?" he asks noticing that she is clearly not ok.
She then looks up to him surprised.
"I didn't hear you come in." she says quickly looking down again.
"Ichika left so I wanted to check up on you." he explains, sitting down next to her.
All of a sudden she stands up and turns to him, her arms spread wide.
"Look at me. Do you know how much pain the blood in my veins has caused?" she says dryly.
Adam looks her up and down with wonder.
Her eyes are now the same black and gold that Ichika's eyes are. Across her stomach and up her arms are the same red lines that Ichika has, although they are less obvious against her dark orange fur. Adam starts to blush as he sees the lines curl underneath her breasts where they go to her arms. Speaking of, she does not have very large breasts but something tells him that they are quite firm.
He sees a second set of lines start next to those on her stomach, although these lines follow her legs down to her feet/paws.
He always finds it odd that Anima's only walk on the front end of there feet and never the whole foot.
"You look, beautiful." he says absolutely mesmerized.
"No I don't. Did you know that, the reason my father didn't marry my mom was because my grandmother was preventing her from getting a job. Because of that he had to go back to her or else she wouldn't have been able to give me a future." Sakura says letting her arms fall to her sides.
"And she thought she was being generous by allowing me to visit him on occasion. Just because I carry his, and by extension her, blood." she adds.
"Is that how you met Ichika?" Adam asks.
Sakura nods refusing too look him in the eye.
"And now I have to marry someone I've never met. I guess that's what I get for ruining my mom's life." she says, her tears getting lost in her fur.
"I've had enough of you belittling yourself." Adam exclaims jumping up and pulling her into a hug.
"You are beautiful and your mother loves you. You didn't ruin anyone's life, you made all our lives better. And I will save you from her." he adds embracing her tightly.
He didn't know how he was going to do it. But as this girl, whom he loves deeply, wrapped her arms around him he knew he would do whatever it took.
He wouldn't let anyone take her. Especially not some stranger who might treat her badly.
She was his for as long as she wanted to be and he would fight for her like the monster he just might be.
