Adam POV
The rest of the day goes by without anything happening at all.
All I had to do was fill in a student council application form and hand it in. With that done the rest of my day was rather boring.
I decided not to tell Ben until I told my family so he doesn't know yet. It's not like he would believe me even if I had told him anyway.
After school I texted Mira that I wouldn't be waiting for her then left to pick up Pete.
The walk over to his school felt empty without someone to talk to. As a result the walk felt much longer than it actually was.
When I do reach Pete's school I don't find him waiting for me in the reception room. I do however hear his loud mouth coming from the playground.
The lady (leopard) by the desk looks confused and is about to ask me something when a familiar voice cuts in.
"Well I'll be. Haven't seen you in a good long while." an old polar bear says from behind the counter lady.
"I haven't had a chance to visit." I greet her, a smile automatically forming on my lips.
This polar bear was his teacher when he went to school here. She was always very kind to Adam so he has fond memories of her.
"Well it's high time you make time." she says stepping around the desk to come greet me.
"How have you been Ms. Beckett?" I ask just as she envelopes me in a tight bear hug. Seem ironic I suppose.
"I've been good and healthy." she replies.
Having not seen her for some time I hug back with all the strength I can muster.
"You must be here to pick up Pete." she says letting me go.
"I am but judging by his obnoxious laughter I'd say there's enough time to squeeze in a short visit to my old teacher." I reply as she holds me at arms length.
"It's a good thing the kettle is already boiling." she agrees.
As I follow her into the back office I can see the desk lady staring at me in confusion. But behind her confused gaze is something else. Something that chills me to the bone.
In the back office I see Ms. Beckett take a second cup from the cupboard. She then proceeds to fill it with the ingredients essential to making a good cup of coffee.
"I must say I was quite surprised when I'd seen how much you'd grown since I last saw you." she says after a few moments.
"I'm glad I don't disappoint." I reply thankful that she's still easy to talk to.
We then spend a good half hour talking over a good cup of coffee. When we're done she personally sees me and Pete of.
The walk home is filled with the details of Pete's day going in through one ear and going out through the other.
When the two of us get home we find that everyone is already waiting for us.
"So, how was your visit. It's been a long time since you've seen Ms. Beckett." Mom says as I walk into the house.
"Ahhh I see. So that was your actual goal huh." I say scolding myself for not having noticed sooner.
"She asked me how you were doing so I thought that it was time you visited." Mom replies with a shrug.
"But why just me? Doesn't she miss Mira or Seth?" I ask, my face probably looking like that of a confused monkey.
"Well you see, she and Mira chat over the phone fairly regularly while Seth goes and visits almost weekly. You are the only one who hasn't seen her in an extended period of time." Mom explains.
Everyone around me is suddenly looking at me as if I'm a deadbeat who just asked for money.
"I see. Well then I'll visit more often." I say admitting defeat.
The training routine felt less awkward than the speech Mom had given me even after I had admitted defeat so I gladly lost myself in it. And before I knew it we were done and had to clean ourselves up.
You are are all probably wondering how bathroom arrangements work with a family of ten. Well simple, they have two very large bathrooms with very large baths. Like that cliche massive bath you find in most anime except they have two so the boys have no excuse to "accidentally" wander in.
After cleaning up we all sit around the dinner eating spaghetti.
God I love pasta.
But despite my burning love of pasta I couldn't eat properly. At least not until I made my announcement.
"Guys, I have news." I say with the most serious expression I can muster.
Trying not to get nervous I realise that everyone is staring at me and that it's suddenly deathly quite. It actually feels kinda creepy.
"I've joined the student council." I finally manage to say.
Then it happens, the thing I was afraid of. Suddenly everyone bursts out laughing. After a moment or two I see them rolling around on the floor laughing. After maybe ten minutes of intense humiliation they finally shut up.
When they see my face John says, "Wait, you were being serious?"
Then I tell them about the Pinkertons and me joining the council.
"Anybody join yet?" Dad asks after a few seconds of thought.
"The text is only going out just now so of course not." I reply.
I should remember to thank the president for sending out that text.
"That's funny. I would have thought that Ben would jump at the opportunity to join a club like yours. After all he is a bit of a sucker for mystery." Mira comments looking genuinely surprised.
"I..... haven't told him yet." I explain lowering my head.
Ben is going to kill me tomorrow.
