How do you think you look? Body image is the mental representation of oneself that an individual creates, but it may or may not correspond to how one actually appears. Body dysmorphic disorder is a severe form of poor body image in which dissatisfaction with a minor or undetectable flaw in one's appearance becomes a severe obsession. Poor body image can have a negative impact on a person's academic or professional performance, relationship satisfaction, and overall quality of life. A person often nullifies in a particular area such as the nose, breast, or legs. This perceived defect is actually not even appear to others. Persons suffering from severe levels of the disorder become obsessed with a failure to such an extent that some people visit cosmetic surgeons repeatedly.
Body dissatisfaction can be minor, such as "too bad my nose is so big," or severe, such as "I despise everything about my body." When you begin to think you have a defect, your mind is distracted and becomes more than you are. Everything has an effect on your thinking and feeling, and on life in general.
