Bullying is a behavior that can happen to people of any and all ages.
A child who starts going to school can face multiple obstacles caused by bullies. Most kids are being made fun of for things they cannot control, such as the color of their skin or their disabilities. The fact that they have no power over how they look makes things very difficult for someone that age. They don't know how to deal with these repeated comments or even physical violence, leading to built-up anger and sadness at an early stage of life.
When that child grows up, they may face another type of bullying. "You are too sensitive, toughen up!" Perhaps this sensitivity is caused by painful past experiences. Experiences that make a person unable to handle criticism, unable to find confidence in themselves, unable to see any good in the face they look at in the mirror. This forces a teenager to sit alone during lunch, or among people they don't like, just to feel like they belong and "fit in".
This idea of being able to "fit in" is harmful. This is what causes bullying. When people see someone doing something out of the ordinary, or having an appearance that is unusual, that drives them to mock this person. Simply because they don't fit in with the standards that were created.
