"Everyone, I want you to meet our new employee. This is Taehyung; he'll be taking over from Felix since he moved back to Australia."
A round of applause sounds from Seokjin's co-workers, and the man standing in the middle of the room gives a boxy grin.
"It's really nice to meet everyone." he says, voice low and calming. "I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better while we work together."
They soon return to their regular work, Taehyung being placed beside Seokjin since he's one of their best employees and the boss thinks he'll be a good mentor. The two of them easily get to talking, joking and sharing stories about their lives and their families as if they're good friends already.
But Seokjin's confused. He feels something special around Taehyung, something he's never felt around another guy before. Like he... wants to be with him. Romantically. Sure, they've just met, but he's never had this kind of chemistry with anyone.
But what would that make him? He's only ever liked girls before, so now that he's interested in a guy, does that suddenly make him gay? No, that's crazy. Or is it? He really has no clue.
"Hey, hyung, can I ask you a question?"
Not wanting to look up from his phone in case the sight of Taehyung would make him blush uncontrollably, Jin hums in acknowledgement.
"I don't wanna sound too forward or anything, but... are you single?"
Shit. What's he supposed to say? Then again, all he asked was if he was single or not. That doesn't necessarily mean he's trying to ask him out. But why would he ask if he wasn't going to?
"I, um... n-no, I have a-a girlfriend."
"Oh," Taehyung grins. "That's cool. How long have you two been together?"
"Six months. Can I go back to my break now?"
"Yeah, sorry for bothering you."
He's more than glad when the end of the day comes along, and makes sure to rush out before Taehyung can talk to him again. Sure, he's a nice guy, but all these feelings are really confusing, and they make Seokjin feel like he's either about to throw up or pass out.
He makes a beeline for his car, getting in and driving off as quickly as he can. Once he's home and parked up outside, he sighs to himself and rests his forehead against the steering wheel.
What is he gonna do?
That night...
Sitting up, Seokjin lets out a huff. He's been tossing and turning for what feels like hours now, and no matter how hard he tries, he just can't sleep. His mind's elsewhere - partly Taehyung, but mainly what he is because of Taehyung. It's all so confusing - he's still attracted to women, but since he's had feelings for a guy... he doesn't know what he is. He feels like he's gay, but not gay at the same time. Does that even make sense?
Why is it so confusing? When he was a kid, there were only two options - gay or straight - but now there's a whole plethora of sexualities, so many of them similar in the way they work, that he doesn't know what to call himself. Doesn't know who he is anymore.
Deciding he's not going to be able to sleep anytime soon, he drags himself out of bed and collects some clothes from the floor, then gets dressed and grabs his phone and keys. He heads out of his apartment, letting the cool night air greet him as he steps outside, and just starts walking. He doesn't know exactly where he's going, but his brain's already moving too fast for him to think about it, so he just lets his legs do all the work.
Eventually, he comes to a little shopping promenade, and spends a few moments looking into the windows of the closed shops. Only one is actually open, a glowing neon sign outside pointing to the door, which is surrounded in similar lights.
