Non-binary representation bitches (ily all my genderless hoes)

"Are you ready?"

Exhaling forcefully, Jimin looks up at their boyfriend, tears prickling their eyes as they glisten in the dim light of the car. "What if they don't like me?"

"They will, buttercup." the elder takes their hand, kissing the back of it gently. "Don't worry about it. They'll love you just as much as I do, I just know they will. Just be yourself."

"Alright."

The two exit the car. Seokjin's mother is already standing at the front door, grinning widely at them both.

"Jinnie, it's so good to see you!" she gasps, pulling her son in for a hug. As she does, she catches sight of an awkward-looking Jimin standing behind him, and pulls away with slight confusion. "I thought you said you were bringing your partner over, not your friend."

"Eomma, this is Jimin." Seokjin's hand slips into the younger's. "And they're not my friend, they're my partner."

"Huh, I never knew you were gay. You never told us."

Face heating up a little, Jin sighs shakily and forces a smile. "Let's talk about this inside, shall we? I need to explain it to you and Appa."

The couple follow Jin's mother into the house, taking in the surroundings - lavish furniture, large windows, gorgeous decorations - until they get to the dining room. They take a seat at the already-set table, having been told by Mrs Kim that they're guests and they deserve to be treated as such, before waiting for her and her husband to come into the room.

They do so a few minutes later, both helping to plate up food, while also eyeing Jimin with a certain amount of perplexity. It doesn't go unnoticed by Seokjin, who simply grips his partner's hand tightly beneath the table.

"So," says his father, taking a seat. His mother does the same. "Eomma said you had something to tell us."

"Yeah," Jin clears his throat, sitting up. "I'm pansexual, so that basically means I like anyone. Doesn't matter whether they're a boy, a girl, or neither, it's just down to personality. Jimin is my partner."

"You don't have to be so formal, Seokjin-ah." chuckles his mother. "He's your boyfriend, so just call him that."

Jimin sucks in a breath, which is so quiet that their boyfriend's parents thankfully don't hear it. Seokjin seems to understand what's going on, and gives their hand a tight squeeze of reassurance.

"But Jimin's not my boyfriend. They aren't a boy."

"So she's your girlfriend?"

"No," the brown-haired sighs in slight frustration, bringing a hand to his forehead. "Jimin isn't a boy, but they aren't a girl either. They're non-binary, which means they don't have a gender that lies on the binary spectrum, ergo, they aren't a boy or a girl. Understand?"

Jin's father nods, then looks to Jimin with a little smile. "I'm very sorry, Jimin. We'll try and remember not to call you that anymore. Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?"

Relaxing slightly, Jimin nods. "Well, I'm 25, and I'm a model. Mostly freelance stuff, but I used to work for this company in Busan, which is where I'm from. Then I moved here, and since I was so far away, I had to leave. But I started working for myself, and it's been better."

"Interesting," comments their boyfriend's mother. "And how did you meet Jin?"

"Oh, we actually went camping together with some of our mutual friends. I found him really interesting so we went out for coffee a couple weeks later. It was a good date, so we kept seeing each other, and here we are now."

The rest of the evening seems to go without many problems, the only one being the occasional accidental misgendering that Jimin faces. And while it bothers them a little, they put on a brave face and kindly correct them, if Seokjin doesn't do it first.

Once they've all finished eating, Seokjin's parents begin to clear up, collecting dishes and the like. Of course, Jimin tries to help, but the pair dismiss them and tell them that they shouldn't since they're a guest.

After the washing's done, Jimin heads for the bathroom. Meanwhile, their boyfriend and his parents are sitting at the little coffee table in the living room, the former helping them with some kind of tech issue they've been having. After doing what they need to do, Jimin comes back, and spends a moment standing in the doorway in silence before clearing their throat to get Seokjin's attention.

"Jinnie, can I, um, talk to you for a minute?"

The elder looks up, slightly confused, and nods. He gets up and follows his partner out of the room, the two of them stopping only when they're definitely out of earshot.

"So, um... your parents. I don't wanna offend you, or them, but I don't like that they keep calling me a guy. Like, you keep correcting them, but they keep doing it. I guess I'm just wondering why."

"Baby, I'm really sorry." the brown-haired wraps his arms tightly around them, rubbing their back. "This is all new to them. They've never met someone who doesn't identify as man nor woman, so they're not really sure about it all."

"So, they're not doing it deliberately just because they don't like me?"

"Sweetpea, no. They're just a little confused. My dad actually told me you're a really nice person and that he admires how polite you are. But I promise, I'll do everything I can to educate them so you're more comfortable."

Sighing in relief, the ravenet tucks their head into the crook of Seokjin's neck and inhales his comforting scent. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, Jiminie."

"D'you think we could go home now?"

Jin pulls back, smiling as he takes Jimin's hands, and gives a gentle nod. "Of course. C'mon, let's go say goodbye."

They make their way back to the living room and say a quick goodbye, thanking Seokjin's parents for the meal, before leaving, their car being a place of solace and security where both can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

"Hey," Jin whispers, smiling as he glances at his lover. "Guess what, Jiminie?"

"What?"

"I love you."

The younger grins. "I love you too."
