My half non-spoilers and spoilers review of Deadlock Rebels

Non-Spoilers Version:

Ok buckaroos, so you want some lore about two southern peeps? Well this book got it. 290 pages of lore content from Ashe's point of view, but it's in first person. So, if anything it's mostly Ashe lore. You will get some McCree lore, and at least 3% of B.O.B lore.

Writing style:

It's good, but sometimes I would get confused because there's technology in the Overwatch world that I just can't visualize in its entirety. Not a lot of description, but that's either because of the point of view or because of the audience the book was written for. With that in mind, I can't really hate on it. This is something I have experienced when reading it so it's either me or the book. But in order to really understand what you are reading, you're gonna need to know enough about the world lore of Overwatch in order to understand the lingo used. So go in with that in mind.

Overall experience: 

Good read. I got through it in three days and I enjoyed the story + characters. I bought the book for McCree, and I wish that we could still learn more about his younger years. However I felt like the story solidifies his personality as a person, so that makes for more accurate fanfiction writing. There are some funny moments, some happy moments, and some sad moments. Good times all around.

Recommendation:

You learn a lot about Ashe (of course) so I highly recommend it for Ashe stans who are for that deadlock gang life. And if you're McAshe shippers, then you'll definitely get your fill on this. McCree stans, I already told you what to expect so get it if you want to.

Ok spoilers ahead dudes I'm gonna do a summary and then touch on some of my favorite moments from the book below.

A summary written in my own words, btw I'm bad at summaries so this might be a synopsis idk here you go:

So, long story short Ashe gets in trouble a lot; to the point where she gets bailed out of jail by her parents regularly and she is acquainted with the police officer of the local jail. Anyways, it's her graduation day and Ashe was looking forward to graduating because 1.) she was actively trying this time and 2.) to rub it in her parents' face. Sike! Parents are off on a business trip to kiss ass to other companies because of money and the demand for guns their company supplies is down. Ashe gets mad, decides to go out without B.O.B as her bodyguard, gets into a fight with two students from her school because their parents got laid off by Ashe's parents' company. Btw the two students BROUGHT A KNIFE intending to TEAR A BITCH UP. Ashe beats them up and makes them bleed, but the authorities show up and are like: yea it's definitely Ashe's fault. Ashe gets taken behind bars, and meets Jesse McCree. He got arrested for defending one of his good friends, Julian, during a fight. Bonding time behind bars ensues until Ashe gets bailed out by B.O.B, and gets yelled at by her parents via holoscreen in the car. Her mom threatens to disown her by the time she turns eighteen, which is in 3 months. Ashe gets mad because that means she doesn't get shit from her parents and is basically on her own. So, she goes: How about I steal what's mine with McCree, the farm boy from that megafarm, and split the money we get from selling stolen weapons from my family's fortune of guns? She gets McCree from the megafarm he just got thrown out of and starts the heist. Btw it almost fucking killed them to get a crate of guns because of robot security. Which means new recruitment time at this hang-out spot called Cutthroat Trout. Ashe goes in with a red wig on under the alias Calamity. We got a bar, card games, brutal ass hovercycle racing, and also OMNIC RACISM. Meet the team: Julian the ginger with a scar on his cheek who was best buds with Jesse since they used to work on the same mega farm together. He likes to blow things up and he is hyperactive. And then our last team member: Frankie the hacker with purple glasses, dark skin, and curly lavender hair. She was brought in by Ashe. The new crew of peeps want some hoverbikes for a mission, but Julian being Julian bets to a champion hovercycler if Ashe wins against her that they get four bikes and if she loses then she gets B.O.B. Ashe somehow does it tho and they got bikes, but they all need an upgrade. Upgrades were bought on a shopping trip in the black market where Ashe meets a gang called the Diamond Backers who Frankie used to work for, so you know it's already fucking awkward. Anyways, they upgrade the bikes in a barn not too far from the mansion, go on some successful heists aiming towards her parents' factory and some other small companies, and get put in the newspaper as some mysterious gang. Ashe and crew go to steal some shit but the diamond backers show the fuck up with their leader Marco who was like: "this is our territory gtfo" and punches Julian in the face. Ashe and crew left, and then soon enough came back to said territory intending for a good ass heist to end their team-up on a good note. Unfortunately, it was a shitty ass heist and they got shit guns. Ashe's birthday be happening the next day and she's flat out depressed. She just hangs out in the barn area to work on making a dope ass red bike and finishes. McCree goes in and comforts her with a present: it's the keychain that says Ashe on it, the one from the animatic. Ashe loves the present, B.O.B gives her her red wig, for the gang of friends invited everyone at Cutthroat Trout to Ashe's house for a surprise party under the disguise that it was just a random abandoned mansion. Ashe parties and McCree GETS KIDNAPPED BY THE DIAMOND BACKERS. Then the diamond backers lit the house on fire, notified the police that Ashe was responsible for the heists done by the mysterious gang, and then Ashe's parents come home to their house trashed+fired. Turns out Ashe's parents weren't gonna disown her ass, but were just saying that to teach her a lesson. Then Ashe realized she didn't want to be like her parents at all and decided she was going to disown herself from her parents. Ashe goes to jail, and uses the money in the shared bank account she has with her fellow friends to bail herself out. She runs back to the barn to plan for Jesse's rescue with Frankie and Julian but Frankie is pissed that Ashe spent most of the money in the bank account. She was gonna use that money for her family and thinks Ashe was being selfish, despite the fact she had no other option. So, Frankie stays behind while Julian, Ashe, and B.O.B head to the Diamond Backer's territory in Deadlock Gorge. The plan almost happened, until Ashe got snitch-snatched by Marco the douche bag. It's revealed that Julian was the rat and ratted Ashe out to the Diamond Backers because he was in-debt to them. Frankie comes to the rescue by playing police music to scare the gang members and B.O.B holds Julian hostage while the rest of the friendship gang track down Jesse. They meet a friendly Diamond Backer named Bez, who's tired of Marco's shitty ass leadership, and helps guide them to a beaten up Jesse McCree. Bez leaves the five, and Ashe tries to come up with a way to sneak out even tho they're outnumbered. Even with the weapons Ashe had stolen from her house, McCree and her could not really do shit. McCree got shot in the leg and Ashe got shot in the shoulder, so Ashe offered her life to Marco in exchange for B.O.B, Frankie, and McCree to leave unharmed. Marco was planning on using Ashe as his captive to get some money out of her parents for her return, despite the fact Ashe disowned herself from them. However, Ashe had Julian put up some explosives around the hide-out before she got snitch-snatched and had the button to set it off. So, she used that to threaten all of them. She then proceeded to use her level 100 speech skill in persuading the Diamond backer gang members to go against Marco by offering a fair share of the spoils for each heist with the assistance of Bez and Julian. Ashe now has a full fledged gang, and feels like she has an actual family. Marco and Julian get turned into the police in a crate, and McCree helps Ashe make up their new gang name: Deadlock Rebels. Then the rest of the crew gets new jackets, and says "deadlock forever". The end.
